Angry DVD-A Ripoff!

The DVD A audio format sounds great if its mixed right(Linkin Park Reannimation, Queens the game) but many artists seem to put out previous recordings in DVD-A format to sucker some more money out of the public.. Case in point.. Santana's Supernatural. This is a great recording and I love Santana however I spent 20 dollars to only find out it sounds not even as good as the CD....its mixed poorly.. many tracks you can barely hear Santana's guitar. I think we should all post any DVDA reviews when we buy them to avoid ALL of us wasting our money.

I like DTS better than DVD-A and usually research the CD prior to purchase to verify the work done to the CD is what I'm looking for.

Does dts work in our TL's? What about SACD..I saw some of those too..although very weak selection IMHO. Ususally I do research but not this I was out and about and elected to do an impulse purchase...wont happen again.

sacd does not work in the TL. the selection is actually better than dvd-a and there are more companies supporting that format right now. you have to be careful with dvd-a's, try larger record stores that let you listen to them before purchasing. its going to be hard to find a store that has the dvd-a you are interested in being demo'ed. also read audiophile forums for reviews of the dvd-a's.

SACD's do not play. DTS music does.

Decent site that reviews DVD-Audio and SACD titles.: http://www.highfidelityreview.com/index.asp

SilverJ you are 100% correct - quality varies from disc to disc. Many are just "shovelware" (borrowed from back when CD-Roms first came out) - they just throw the existing tracks onto the new format with little to no re-mixing.

Some of the better DVD-Audio titles, imo:
Linkin Park - Reanimation (LOVE THIS)
Porcupine Tree - In Abstensia
Queen - Night at the Opera
Stone Temple Pilots - Core
Eagles - Hotel California (it's amazing how good this sounds)
Metallica - Metallica (I may be biased here, this is one of my all-time fav albms)

Big disapointments:
3 Doors Down - Away from the Sun
Led Zepplin - How the West Was Won
R.E.M - Best of...

Just wish Pink Floyd was on DVD-A instead of SACD!!
