DVD Navi Movies

BTK413,
Thanks for your words man, all we need is the appreciation.
Well, let me say that your first questions is tricky, because it more of 50/50, but from what I know and what the law book says, that you CANNOT have it on while you are driving, and even when you are at a stop light, it might still sway yout attention.
Put it this way, anything that may take yout eyes away from the road is illegal -And that does not include everything of course- and put in mind that the law book changes every 12 months (some laws are added and some are dropped).
Because if you review the night vision in American vehicles and the rear mounted Camera in many Japanese cars, they are designed to function when the vehicle is in reverse, and never when it's moving forward.
I checked the law book, and yet we have nothing about the fromt mounted Camera, because it is not widely used now, but I'm sure that they'll be something about it soon.
I believe that this might happen if you have a front camera, if an officer notices a movie being played in the front by a driver (could be a movie and could be a front camera display), he or she we'll tell you that it's illegal of course to have a DVD monitor in the front, and if not they'll ask you for your need of having a camera in the front while you have a perfect view of it, please tell me how you'll answer that?
And for the second part, you can have something (a screen or a monitor) in your view (windshiled) as long as it does not block your view, and i mean as in Cadi's, it's integrated in the windshield its self, si it doesn't look like a secondary screen.
A lot don't know that putting air freshners and hanging anything on your rear view mirror is illegal, because they are simple things, but believe me that they are as illegal as having secondary screens in the front.
What I'm trying to say is, ifthe sreen looks like its blocking your view or looks like its custom installed, you might have a problem.
If you can tell me what exactly you want to put or how it will look, i might be able to help you further with this.
Waiting for your reply.

Qatar,
These laws are making it very difficult to create my James Bond car!!
The front view cam was just an idea with more "neat" factor than practical use. However it could be practical and reasonable to use in parking situations, to help get within inches of an obstruction without making contact.
As far as the rear camera on while at a stop light... Again, this is really just for fun and possibly used to view the license plate or people in the car behind me.
So in response to what you are saying about the legallity of a rear view camera on while "driving" I guess I need the definition of what is considered driving so I can find a way to legally get around the law. I am not looking to abuse the law or operate my vehicle in an unsafe manner. Do you think that if my rear cam only worked while the parking brake was on that would be resonable enough to avoid recieving a ticket? This leads to knowing the exact meaning of the law and definitions of "driving" or "operating".

BTK413,
Ok, I believe that I got you all confused.
let me put it this way, what i mean by driving is when the vehicle is in motion for what exceeds 4 MPH.
If I'm in your place, I'll go ahead and install the Camera, and if pulled over, I'll let them know that it's dealer installed, and I have nothing to do with it and know nothing about operating it.
You see, when you already have a Navi indash, it makes it look like the camera came with the car, and also if they have knowledge about the MDX and RX330, they'll sure let you go.
I'm very sure that you won't have a problem with the Police as long as you don't look at the screen while driving and if pulled over let them know that it's a rear camera, not a DVD player.
Thats one thing all officers agree on.

Lesson learned: don't lie to a cop to try to avoid a fine - they might take it "personal" and throw a tantrum.
Watch the ROAD, not the movie, foo.

Well, 2004TL is right
I have a DVd player with a monitor in the front, but remember guys that the key is not to play while driving.
I never play it while driving, and the only reason I have one is to keep the ladies quiet while driving.
You won't have a problem as long as your not watching while driving.
I look like a Parrot now for repeating.

And while I'm at it...
In response to Qatar's follow up post to my original complaint about police inconsistency: It frightens me to think that people with your intelligence are enforcing the law. To quote Qatar,
"NSWAGAR,
if cops are ****s to you, well thats fine with my, but that does not eliminate the fact that I WILL pull you over if you are playing a movie inthe front.
I'm a Police officer, I'm not a baby sitter, I'm not here to pat on people or baby sit them, and believe me, I'm the nicest in the depertment, you should see my supervisor, who believe in one God (God of tickets), not a long time ago, he issued 150 tickets in one day, and they are all 10/4 (right tickets no doubt).
There is an reaction for every action, so you want to do whatever you want without being punished???
Many times when your in trouble, you look and wish that there is a police officer, just because you need one.
And the person who i issued the ticket to, was rude and a big challenger, because like i told him, we are all drivers and car fanatics, and all he had to do was not play the movie while driving, and i never asked him to remove it, but he almost sweared that he didn't play anything, and i hate it when people try ti insult my intelligence, just because I'm on officer, and it seems that you'll be getting it soon, I do NOT **** around on duty."
What kind of education is required to be a police officer? If I had to count, there must have been 15 or 20 grammar and spelling errors in the incoherent babble that you posted as a response to my complaint about your behaviour, not to mention that your pathetic attempt to use Newton's third law of motion was misquoted. And in case you forgot, there are 24 hours in a day, or 1440 minutes (use a calculator, lest I lose you here). This means that your BS story about your supervisor giving out 150 tickets in a day issued those tickets at an alarming rate of one violation every 9.6 minutes, based on a continuous 24-hour shift. Based on your “lying = ticket” equation that you seem to use in issuing violations, I give your credibility 6 demerits. In case you too were home-schooled, I'll be perfectly clear: you are a dolt.

NSWAGAR,
I didn't know that you early comment was for me.
But listen man, this is not a grammar class, so I write here as I wish, which means I don't give a damn about grammar.
Don't be a moron man, just because I said that my supervisor gave out 150 tickets, it didn't mean that everybody did.
it was a one day incident .
Another thing is that I dont give a damn if you believe me or not, who are you to question me.
If you live in the East, I have no problem showing you our department and maybe show you my supervisor, who cares about nothing like he cares about numbers.
He is originally from Korea, and came here when he was 5 years old, and guess how he was treated since he couldn't speak English?
I really hope that one day you'll be pulled over by him, so you'll understand that Police job is about working, not talking.
We have a new officer that just transfered from Fairfax county Police department, to tell you the truth, he knows nothing about English, his English is all messed up, but he is respected because of his abilities, not because of the way he writes or the way he misspells words.
There is two things you can do, go and ask a Police officer about all what I said and you'll know for sure if I'm playing on the net, or working outside.
The second one is, go to the academy, and see if anybody will give a F.ck about your grammar.
They need workers, not teachers.
Another thing big mouth, there is so many bad drivers out there that you can give 10 tickets every 60 minutes, and if you know how to calculate, multiply that on two shifts, which is 16 hours, and you'll come up with 200 tickets.
How long you think that it takes us to write a ticket??
I'm sure that if you go to a Police Academy, you might pass the writen test, but never the physical or any others, simply because you have a mouth, and boy I hope we meet.
I admit that there is a lot of grammar errors here, but it's not an official paper, so screw that man.
I respect everybody here, and never thought that I'll say this, but screw you man, because simply there are other ways to communicate and investigate.
I have a partner who is from England, and he is so into English that he can correct.....well, how can I say this, I bet your a$$ that he'll find grammar errors in your cool response.
Listen boy, don't try to light anything on here, because i have a mouth too.
Just go and check with any police officer, and try to prove me wrong.
My apology to everybody else.

Did someone forget to change your diaper, newbie?
If you are retarded enough to let your mouth runneth over with a cop when he pulls you over, then you deserve every damn thing you get.
I've been pulled over a few times for blatantly breaking the law (mostly speeding), and yet, no tickets. Hmmm... being civil is lost on you, apparently.
Good night, moron. You continue to live in your utopia, where life is completely fair, while I openly laugh in your general direction.

You told me to remember the key is not to play it while driving and that you never play it while driving and in the same sentence you tell us that the only reason you have one is to keep the ladies quiet while driving. So it is my understanding that the ladies you speak of enjoy stairing at a blank screen while you drive or you have doughnutholeitis and the ladies are actually watching the vanity mirror and wondering who the girl is staring at them. Wouldnt duck tape be a more thrifty advantage than a DVD Nav unit playing movies?
Also One more question...."Another thing big mouth, there is so many bad drivers out there that you can give 10 tickets every 60 minutes, and if you know how to calculate, multiply that on two shifts, which is 16 hours, and you'll come up with 200 tickets."
ROFLMAO!! With all due respect...how many tickets would it be if you gave 10 an hour for 16 hours? 10 X 16 = 200?
BTW...If you are indeed a cop thank you for your duty...I am married with 2.5 kids and my dad was a cop for 5 years in Santa Ana, CA...much respect for Law men and women...I know you dont hear it enough...but thank you! Even if you cant add.

Mav,
Thanks for your reply man, and I believe that your way more civilized to talk and inquire.
I know that 10 X 16 is 160, but I was trying to prove a point, which was, you can give up to 200 tickets in two countinues shifts, and I didn't literary mean, 200 Tickets, sorry of your got me wrong.
The other point I want to clear out is the monitor in the front, I forgot to mention that I only have the ladies in long trips, because if your in a city or county, you tend to stop a lot, specially stops at traffic lights, which make others view what you have inside you vehicle, and that include Police officers.
But on highways, you won't be bothered by City or county officers, because they have no jurisdiction there, and State troopers won't stop you if you have passengers in the vehicle and driving with a reasonable speed limit facing the road straight up, and not looking at the monitor.
What I'm trying to say is that if your within a city limits and playing a DVD, your probably going to be pulled over by officers, but if your on highways, it's really rare, actually I've never heard of anybody being pulled over by a state trooper for playing a movie up in the front.
What happens is that if a officer noticed that something is being played in the drivers view, he'll run your tags and check for any violations that you previously got, and 7 out of 10 times he won't even bother pulling you over.
The bottom line is, you can have a monitor in the front, but it all depends on your use and intelligence when it comes to violating the law.
Put a monitor, but don't play it while driving, it's as easy as that.
P.S Many Western states don't have strict laws about front view monitors, like CA for example, and I also believethe same with FL.
So, it all depends on your locations and use.
Personally, I won't have any additional monitor in my new 04 TL, because after having it for a year, it's useless, and I can have a rear Entertainment system exactly like the one in the TSX or MDX (You'll never get pulled over for that).

Roger that Qatar!
I understood what you were saying...just playing. I have a very good friend whos on the PD in Houston and we game online all the time...you remind me a lot of him and I was just treating you the same way. Honestly...I will be too afraid to mess with any electrical aspects of the car for a while. I would be pissed if I started having electronics messed with and really screwed something up.
Anyways...keep your safety on and your eyes open.

Actually the front camera has a very good use.
In very foggy situations, an infrared camera combined with radar technology might save your life!
I wish Qatar would spell better. There are too many mistakes for an "intelligent" officer. You should know how to spell brand names like Cadillac (it's an American Brand). Just a tip
We all appreciate your efforts in the force but please don't brag about how intelligent officers are. Risking your life for a very low salary doesn't seem too smart in anybody's book. Although it's brave.
Another point,
if anything that distracts you while driving is illegal, how come officers don't pull over ladies doing their make-up, or people talking on cell phones while eating or drinking ?
that should be priority number one for safety reasons...
BMW is coming out with overhead display for their 5 Series, Corvette has had this for a while, so it's going to be difficult to enforce anti-tech laws if manufacturers keep adding more and more devices that are "distracting" - People are not babies, and they should accept the consequences for their acts.
