You need to use -R disks, I know that for sure. But I am not sure if it will just work straight away - I think there is special software you need to get to burn DVD-R to play in the TL. Do a search, there are a lot of threads on this.

go to the Audio/Vido/Bluetooth/Navi forum. or do a search for dvd-a. It can't be in like a .wav or any regular format. you need software like discwelder or wavelab 5 or others to create it.

Cvajs,

You will definetly need software to properly "author" DVD-A also known as DVD-Audio discs. Right now the only one that the majority of us consumers could probably afford is a product from Minnetonka software called DiscWelder Bronze @ 99.00. You can read more about it here:

http://www.minnetonkaaudio.com/news/...derBRONZE.html

Also, the large culimation of searching through this forum, as MikeyK states, you'll need to use DVD-R media.

To use your music files with Discwelder, you need to have them in .wav format.

Good luck.

yes, i have Minnetonka Bronze for authoring dvd-a discs. i use NeroExpress to rip cd's into 48khz/24bit PCM files. i have not tried the task of ripping from a dvd movie the 5.1 audio into 5.1 PCM, perhaps at a later time i will try that.

just wanted clarity on what type of "dvd format" the tl cd player can read.

thanks for the info...

Acutally, with DiscWelder, you'll need a different program to convernt mp3's to .wav. (Unfortunately DiscWelder doesn't do it). You can find a number of free programs to do it at www.downloads.com...

Yes and no. You can use an external program such as Easy CD-DA Extractor to convert many music formats.

Howerver you cannot upmix your "stereo" mp3's (or other formats) into 5.1 surround. Technically you could perform this, howerver my guess is that it would require specific software which probably costs quite a penny, in that most of the low-end consumer stuff is in "stereo" format.

Also, so you know, if you have any .wav's or other already mixed in 5.1, when transfered into DiscWelder Bronze, they will retain the 5.1 surround.

no. your mp3's are only stereo, so you can't get 5.1 from them.

you need a source that has 6 (5.1) channels in it in order to make a 5.1 dvd-a disc.

you can rip audio in 5.1 pcm encoding from any dvd movie disc, then the 5.1 pcm can be used to make a dvd-a disc...

Can I rip stereo MP3's to a DVD-R disk and then enjoy the benefit of greater storage space than on a CD-R?

Actually, there is freeware out there that will do this. Here's a link to a guide:

No. The TL's DVD reader does not recognize MP3 CD's or DVD's without being "Authored". Most of you know how to create a music CD with most any burner program. DVD's again have to be "Authored" via DiscWelder.

The beauty with Discwelder, is that you can put 99 songs in 1 group. However I believe that the TL only recognizes group 1, so you'd get 99 songs worth of play time (providing you didn’t burn up all the disc space) on one DVD.
