DRL's into full time fogs?

For you owners with Canadian spec TLs, has anyone successfully been able to turn their day time running lights into foglights, like the American counterparts?

I want to be able to have the DRLs on at all times, even if the headlights are turned on. For the Canadian spec TLs, it's either the headlights are on or the DRLs are on, but not both.

I was suggested to just "jump" the fuse for the DRLs to another fuse that turns on when the headlights are turned on, however, that seems a little sketchy. Apparently this is a common practice on Tacomas though. Any ideas?

The 07-08 TLs have the DRL or headlight setup, with separate fogs. The DRLs are not on when the headlights are on.

The 04-06 TLs have the fog lights on if you turn them on while the headlights are on, but no DRLs.

In your first sentence, you say you want to convert your DRLs into fogs, but the rest of your post seems to suggest you want to do the opposite. What exactly are you trying to do? Leave the DRLs on with the headlights so that they serve as fog lights?

Personally I like the way the 07-08 TLs are set up, with the fogs in the bumper. However, proper use of fog lights is only in really bad weather - they're supposed to illuminate the edges of the road so that you can slowly make your way. Using them in good weather reduces your visibility further out, due to the increased light immediately in front of the car, which you won't notice because your brain/eyes will have already made the adjustment, thus limiting how far out you can detect objects of concern. Doing this when you don't actually need the fogs would be purely for aesthetics, at the cost of safety. Just my two cents.

Just to clarify, I want the DRLs on my 2006 to "act" like fog lights, in that they stay on when I turn the headlights on. I know their light output is fairly low and I don't expect them to act like real fog lights.

I currently have "hyper" yellow bulbs in my DRL housing- I just want them to always be on. I like the dual- HID and yellow light on at the same time. It really is just for the look, as the DRL light output is almost nil.

I know the 07-08s came with separate fog lights in the bumper, but I don't really want to do a front bumper conversion. I like my 06 being an 06, you know? I know the American cars had fog lights built into the headlights for 04-06, but here in Canada we just got DRLs instead. I'm sure the American version had a different wiring harness to make up for the difference between the fogs vs DRLs (such as having the switch to turn them on) but what I don't know is whether it is feasible or easy enough to get the same effect on the Canadian models.

no can do... you will annoy on coming drivers. why not just install some dedicated fog lights if you do not have them?

Why would I annoy on coming drivers? DRLs are on while driving anyway (if headlights aren't on). Their light output is maybe 15% of the headlights. I highly doubt I'd create any issues.

Again, it'd be no different then driving with the fogs on, on a 04-06 TL, with the headlights on.

My buddies 92 integra has, from the factory, fog lights built into the headlights, which can shine at the same time and T&G hey don't bother drivers. And his fogs are way brighter then my DRLs.

drl's arent on at night because the beam pattern isnt correct for night time driving. DRL's output in all directions so it can be seen at any angle in daytime, but at nighttime that can cause annoying glare. Keep in mind I said "annoying" glare, not "blindingly" glare.
Take a flashlight for example. Try looking at it in broad daylight, its not that blinding. Now go in a room, turn off all the lights, and try looking into the same flashlight. You think it's still going to look at same as it did in broad daylight? It all depends on how your pupils are dilated at the time.
So, if you really wanted to do it, it wont be THAT bad, but can just be a minor nuisance to some drivers
