DRL Conversion
DRL Conversion
Does anyone know if there is a simple way to add the daytime running light
feature to my 2004 TL (automatic w/o nav)? I know the Canadian version has
DRL's, but no fog lights. For all I know they might be using the fog lights for the DRL's. I would be willing to give up the fog lights since they are of little
practical value anyway.
BTW, please don't shoot me in the head if this has been covered before. I'm a new user and I did do a search.
Thanks.

Does Canadian model use the same bulb inside as our fog light's if Canadian Acura replaces the fog light by DRL system? If so, don't they feel it's too bright?
Anyway, IMO, DRL mod could be done by the shops... at least, I don't remember anyone in this forum successfully modifying this... maybe I'm wrong.
BTW, search feature is not working well at this time...

DRL in Canada uses 9005 55W bulbs wired in series, so each only sees 6V (and if one goes out the other does too!).
USA uses 9006 51W bulb running off 12V direct each bulb.
A shop can do this mod easily with a relay and some wire. Just power the relay coil from a switched power source, and get the power for the lights from the battery, and connect both in series (a few cut wires will do the job).
Hey, whatever you are into.
It is easier and cheaper (installation, plus the xenon lights last much longer than halogen 9005 or 9006) just to turn on the lights yourself!

when you say DRL do you mean city lights? meaning when you turn the parking lights on the inner headlight will turn on. cause if that's the case you can splice into the turn signal(make sure its the correct hot wire) and use the foglight as the city light. if not then there is probably another hot wire that can be used that is on when the car is set to the acc position.

changing the bulb to better match the HID is no biggie. i mean you can always get a whiter light output with PIAA or Polarg or the multitude of other manufacturers that make these. It won't be like the HID but it will look better than the stock yellowish looking bulbs.
Now as far as HID's, i don't think anyone has done this yet but on my 2K maxima, my fogs look great as HID's. i want to do this on the TL but i don't have enough input yet to know if there are any caveats.

I changed the bulb in my DRL but they still look like crap. It is the 6 V that is killing the look. I could rewire it, but then I would have USA fog lights all the time. Worst, people would always think that I have high beams on.
Anyway try this: put on emergency brake, start the car----> result, DRL are OFF and an indicator shows up on the dashboard. Found it by acciddent. Now I can stalk my ex girlfriend ;-)
