Think about what goes on in the life of an engine for, say, 100.000 miles. Let's assume the car lives in the suburbs and commutes to a medium size city five days a week. It sees duty for all seven days, however. Then let's assume an average engine speed of 2000 RPM and an average road speed of 35 MPH for this 100,000 mile period.

In this example, our subject TL engine would have performed 342,840,000 revolutions. All six pistons combined would have a total of 4,114,080,000 movements in their respective cylinders. And there would have been a total of 1,028,520,000 burns of a fuel/air mix in those cylinders.

Anyone who doesn't think that the modern automobile engine is a work of genius in its ability to do all of this and remain in such good condition after having done it needs to have their head examined.

Never thought of of it that way. Only thought that those 100k miles is equivalent to 10 years of driving, which is the norm these days and easily achieved with proper maintenance.
