i only do that if i know that the red light is long or i am stuck in traffic and i am too lazy to hold the brake pedal down... as long as the road is level, you can pop it in and out of neutral without any load on the engine/tranny without doing it any harm...

but i hope it isn't one of those ricer moves to put it in neutral while you are on a hill to let the car roll back so it looks like you are driving a stick...

well in a manual TL i dont leave it in the 1st gear and just hold clutch i disengage the load... thats why i was asking for an automatic if i do put it in neutral maybe i would relive some of the stress... but maybe not that why the question...

You would abviously relieve the stress of pushing the brake, but unless your leg is tired, injured or lame, just keep the brake pressed while in "Drive". No harm.

on a manual trans when you have the clutch pushed in its wearing away at the material
On an auto trans there is a special system- sort of like an old go kart- so its fine at stop in D5,,,except weak legs as noted- but then you should have soneone else drive you~

IN traffic- stop and go lots of 45 and below put it in D4- that will keep it from hunting for overdrive and use only the gears it really needs at low speed
Using 1st doesnt make the fan turn faster but will increase water pump speed to help cool things when really needed--like below 10mph for miles- get some rpm when you can- it will help

read the owner book on use of SS trans mode- dont worry the computer protects you!
it has a purpose and time, plus can be fun when desired
