Driver Memory

Alright, ive noticed this on a few occasions but now it is down right annoying. My TL wont keep my driver memory saved ie. the little green light isnt lit on 1 or 2. When i get into the car the display reads "driver one detected" and everything too. Does the car recognize the driver by which remote unlocks the car, or which remote is in the car?
Only thing i can think of, is that i keep my driver 2 remote in my car for in the mornings when i have to do PT in the army, i cant be carrying around a clump of keys.

Thanks in advance.

I always thought it was the remote that unlocks the car.

If your memory lit isn't lit, are you making seat adjustments or something? After making all of your adjustments, press and hold the mem button for the corresponding remote. This should save the settings for that remote.

Best way to find out, is to experiment.

Yes driver is recognized by the key fob, which one unlocks the car. Doesn't matter which one is IN the car, it's the one used to UNLOCK.

To save your settings just press the mem button and then the 1 or 2 button, you'll hear a double beep.

Your seat settings, radio settings, dash lighting, and mirrors are saved.

Nah, its when i first get into the car it never lights up. I have set the memory a bunch of times, but if i move the seat at all, and want it back to where it was at, and i hit the 1 button on the door nothing happens. So i have to guess where i had the seat before and reprogram the mem.

sucks

I remember pressing both unlock and lock button together to activate something but I am not exactly sure where I read it...

That just unlinks the remote from the memory system.

I've got a 2006 and in the owners manual pages 76, 96 and 103 tell various features and ways to program the memory settings. I don't recall you saying what year your TL is.

I seem to recall something in the manual talking about automatics needing to be in park for either the save-memory or recall-memory function. I could be totally wrong. But maybe that is related to your problem. The other possibility is that someone was messing with your Keyless Entry settings and turned off some of your functionality.

i've been experiencing the same problem for a while now...and here i thought it was just me...

i've got an '04 TL...the manual says to set your settings when the key is turned to II on the ignition (and in park, of course)...i've set everything numerous times, but half the time it's like the TL just 'forgets' my settings...for example, my settings are set, i get in the car, it says driver XX detected and the green light is lit...i drive around, park it when i'm done, adjust my seat and then hit the corresponding number on the door to put my seat back in it's memorized position and nothing happens...the green light isn't lit anymore and it won't go back to the setting i programmed it for...but if i program my memory settings, adjust my seat, then hit the corresponding button again, it will put my seat back in it's memorized position...i haven't tested this with the mirrors, but it's almost as if the TL 'forgets' my settings after turning the car off or driving around for a minute...basically it remembers half the time and forgets half the time...

Check this out. I had similar issues and had this TSB done last week. Too early to tell if it fixed the problem.

yeah i've already downloaded that TSB file before...but now that you mention it, that has to be my problem exactly...before the dealership had already replaced my ECU because it wasn't storing any memory settings period...but now it's forgetting them and that TSB most likely applies to it...

I've had my memory thing replaced two times now on my 2004 - still has this problem tho. If I see both lights not lit, I just press memory 1 and it lights up - it does not forgot where to put seat, just to put it's light on. Can't believe they cannot fix it. Oh well...not a big deal.

I was listening to the DVD Audio disc that came with the car. At the end of it, it talks about the high tech features. About the memory settings, it says pressing the lock and unlock together both links and unlinks the key... This is for a 2007 TL. It seems you already solved your problem but just FYI.

If you have a manual, the parking brake has to be on in order for the seat to move back to the saved position when you unlock with the fob and open the door.
