Drifting

Any chance any of you guys tried drifting your TL? I know that its a new car and you REALLY shouldn't do it on a new car.... but just wondering if anyone did. (Yeah, its FWD, but you can still drift it... just a lot harder).

You want to drift a nose-heavy FWD car? Props to you. There are easier cars to do it on.

I for one, will not be doing any such thing on my "semi-luxury" car. I didn't buy it to drive the snot out of it...and to even TRY to drift this car, will be driving the snot out of it.

Id race it, but i dont think Id drift it. If I wanted a car to drift on id be pushing for a stripped down RWD.

Hence my comment on really not recommending it... =) Just was wondering if anyone had... heck, if I were drifting, I'd just buy my friend's 240. Just wondering if anyone has though...

I think it could be done, but it would take a seriously skilled driver as there is zero possibility of throttle steer due to the FWD layout. You would have to hard yank/handbrake the car into a corner to get the rear end to come out at all, and even then it would be hard to maintain.

I would be interested in seeing this accomplished in such a heavy car, especially with FWD!!

Good luck!

I've got it to drift around part of a traffic circle, and came out on one of the spurs that's on probably a 110 degrees angle. I'll tell you know, it did not feel right in this car at all and I won't do it again. The road was completely dry, BTW.

Imho...

We ever discussed this topic an year ago, and yes, it could be done, and some ppl did (not the real drifting though).

However, I think the heavy front 3GTL may limit the abilities of this "drifting". As we all know, the RWD could make this happen easily, as well as the well-balanced FWD vehicle can make it.

I think you could do the "inadequate and partial" drifting on our 3GTL under some road conditions. Or I would say you could make 3GTL perform a short moment of actions between oversteer and drifting. It's very hard to make this car drift like RWD drivers or professional ones. (using E-brake is different...)

Have any of you taken your TL off any sweet jumps?

I like to go really fast and let it FLY off some curbs near the mall

Hey all, like I reiterated in my post, I REALLY wouldn't do it... but I was wondering if some of you tried. Technically, you can drift any car you want. RWD makes it easier but FWD can do it with the right suspension and power. To prove it, check out a DVD called Drift Bible by one of Japan's "top" drifters, Keiichi Tsuchiya. He drifts a FWD car. Apparently its a lot more difficult than RWD, but its possible. I am assuming with the right wheels and suspension, the TL can do it too. However, like I said before, I wouldn't do it myself... well... actually... 5 years down the line, some extra dough to spend, and a spare car.... maybe.... Anyone know the weight distribution of the TL? Rets is right about the distributed weight. I think the TL in itself would probably need a weight reduction in order to be able to drift well. Apwalsh, if you never drifted before, it wont feel right, especially in a FWD car... and do yourself a favor... never drift a stock car on dry pavement if you want to keep the car well maintained... WAY too much friction... Man, I can't believe no one really drifted a TL yet... there must be someone out there.... hehehe....
