Door protector removal

When I bought my TL it had the door protectors on it, not the door edge guards but the ones that run horizontally along the doors. Now the paint doesn't look as good as the paint of the car. They also didn't prevent every ding. I really prefer the look of the smoothness sans the trim at this point.

I want to remove these, but was wondering how they are sticking to the vehicle. Is it just some 3M that will come off with goo-gone or abrasion, or is it something more permanent? Also, has anyone ever removed these before?

You mean the side moldings?

I used a blow dryer to heat up the double sided tape, then used goo-off and clay bar it

Our TL doesn't look right with them on. If i had them, they would have been removed the first day. here's a DIY that should get it done! Good Luck

I'm really not liking all the good lucks. Has it been that much of a task? Not my first foray into modifying something (my k6 gixxer, old wrx, etc.), it's just a big chunk of the car and would be noticeable if screwed up.

Thanks for the responses. Hopefully it goes well.

So just read through the post and feel pretty comfortable doing this seeing as though I've debadged before and have all the tools for the job, well I'll see if that old blow dryer works.

Wuddup BlaCK, i think we've all gone through the initial doubt prior to starting a project on our cars. But i'm telling you, this site is so informative, that it'll give you that much confidence to do it, instead of paying the stealership to do it. I'm not handy at all, but thanks to this site, i did my bodykit (big project cause it requires taking the bumpers off), and my sidemarkers.

Yeah, hope everything goes well with the removal of the side moldings.
