Don't get into a fender bender...

no, not a story about my accident. read this interesting piece on msn this morning: fender bender

we came in close second as having the highest repair bill, behind the G35. TSX chimes in too down the list.

it got into a fender bender a few weeks back, the guy was probably goin under 3mph so there was no structural damage but the paint cracked underneath the clear coat. total repair estimate $515 for the rear bumper and rear body kit. again there is no structural damage. thats pretty expensive.

Cars can be fixed, more importantly the TL is in the top 2% of all cars tested in passanger safety.

One of the reasons for this is that the car is designed to crumple to absorb the impact and protect the passenger compartment.

I don't know about you, but if it is a choice between me and my car, I would like to be the one to survive.

True, but this will give insurance companies another excuse to raise your rate.

Well, first, ALL modern cars are designed to "crumple". They have "crumple zones". Admitedly some disipate and direct energy (and crumple) away from the passenger cabin better than others.

2nd, the article was about bumper-to-bumper impacts at 3 MPH and 6 MPH. How much "crumple" are you willing to accept if someone bumps your TL's bumper while backing out of a parking space. I'd guess some where close to zero.

It's not a "claim". It is a repost.

And what is this rule? It wasn't in the forum users instruction packet I got (the AcuraZine License Plate Bracket was a nice touch though).

We actually all pay for the high repair costs of these cars whether or not we are in a fender bender. In looking at my recent insurance premium, I see the collision itemization for the TL is almost double what it is for our equivalent (purchase price-wise) Honda Pilot EXL for 6 months: $98 .vs. $187 and this is for a policy with all the discounts applied and no accidents in 20 years (knock on metal). Comprehensive is also more than double the Pilot as well ($38 .vs. $87). These are rates from 21st.com and tend to be pretty competitive rates for insurance.

The TL is expensive to repair and therefore I pay about $200 more each year and I think it's worth every penny!

you gotta show this to offset the high repair bill..i would rather pay a lot of money to fix my car than not be as safe as the TL is ranked
