dome light dimmer mod - Is this possible?
dome light dimmer mod - Is this possible?
Hey there,
I changed out my white car door lights for the superbrightled blue ones a couple days ago. And even though I'm not completely sold on the idea yet, I think it would look so much better if the dome lights weren't so dang bright!
There are times, though, when I might want a bright light in there so I don't really want to replace these bulbs with darker ones...
I noticed this morning that there's actually two switches that control those dome lights. One is the 3-stage switch in the overhead console that switches between on, door, and off. The other is the light housing itself is a switch (press it to turn it on, press again to turn it off).
So what if you could utilize both light switches and make one turn on the lights with less current, similar to how a two-stage lamp would work?
The only time I care about dimming the lights is when the car door is open, since that's the only time you'll see the blue car door lights. When I either turn that switch on the overhead console to On or I press in all four lights (to turn them all on), they can stay the max brightness that they are now.
Am I describing this right? Any ideas on how to make this work?

Another plan
I put 4 bulb white LEDs in the dome lights. They give a "cooler" or bluish white light, more directional, and more compatible with the blue door lights.
They are OK to read by most times. For Grandpa, you can pull the visors down and turn on the vanity mirror lights for extra brightness.

Yeah, I read about that.. I didn't really want to overdo the superbrights and I think that will be pushing it.. So I wanted to see if there was a different way first that would let me use the same bulbs that I have in there now.
