Does your trunk open much automatically?

I have the wing spoiler installed by the dealer. When I pop the trunk it unlocks, but does not open by itself at all. The lock unlocks, but then I have to lift the trunk all the way by myself. I would expect it to at least open an inch or two by itself so that you don't have to touch the outside of the trunk to open. I'm wondering if the dealer didn't replace the standard trunk springs with the springs for the wing spoiler.

How much does the trunk open for those of you without the spolier?

Many ppl did post this issue before. Their trunk would not open as high as those without the spoiler or lid. Search could be helpful. For example, the recent post from narnia, https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107698 Good Luck...

I did do a search before I posted. All I found was that one person said that their trunk opened an inch or two with a wing spoiler without the new springs. I didn't think that one person's experience was enough of an indicator of how the trunk should function. Maybe I should have posted to the old thread that I did find (my bad) I am a noob to posting in here, but I've been reading this forum since November.

My trunk doesn't open at all, it just unlocks. I have read some complaints about the trunk not opening enough, but I can't believe that it only unlocks and doesn't open at all by itself.

My trunk lid, without a spoiler, pops open about 2 inches. Then I have to lift it the rest of the way. I really don't know if its normal or not since this is the only Acura I have ever dealt with.

Rgorsk,

I have no spoiler at all on my '04, and the lid barely clears an inch when I open the trunk. The springs are weak, IMHO.

By the way, where in Westchester are you? I'm in Cortlandt Manor.

Take care,
Anthony

An inch or two is the all Acura and Honda cars are designed to open. Every now & again I'll see one with an accesory spoiler installed that will open father due to heavier trunk springs.

My current 04 opens about 2 inches with no spoiler. I had a 98 Accord with a spoiler and it opened the same way. I think Honda wants it that way.

I've had my '05 TL for about 12 days now, and the trunk lid initially opened approx. 2 inches. Today it didn't open at all. It was stuck to the rubber gasket (seal). I even had to pull a little to unstick it.

Anyone else having this problem?

Not sure if it's the same, but mine sometimes would not open itself and I have to lift it. If my car is dirty, or I don't open it after a few days, after the rainy days, in some weather conditions, etc, this would happen. All my cars do the similar things before... quite normal to me. IMHO.

If you're trunk lid is sticking to the rubber seal, spray it with some silicone lubricant.
The best way to do this and prevent the spray from getting on the paint work is to spray onto a paper towel and then apply it to the seal.

You should also do this periodically to all of the rubber seals around the doors to keep them soft and pliable.

Thanks for the feedback. I was expecting that my trunk should open at least a couple of inches. I'll have the dealer check the springs when I have to get my oil changed, and I'll pay attention to lubricating the rubber.

Lightbulb 1-2" not such a bad thing after all...

I have the lip spoiler and mine opens 1-2" which, after almost two weeks straight of rain here in SB is not such a bad thing... If you open your trunk and you're in your car and it pops up all the way it exposes everything in there to rain or snow for the amount of time it takes you to get out and get to the trunk. I for one like it the way it is. Just think of the bicep muscles you'll get from lifting open your own trunk. After a few months you'll have arms like Arnold...our esteemed Governor.

Don't get me wrong, I like that it doesn't pop open all of the way. I just wish that mine would open up enough to get a finger underneath to lift it. Now I have to lift it where the license plate lights are and I am afraid that someday I'll grab it too hard and break something. I don't think that the trunk was designed to work the way that mine does.

I would think that it would be unwise to have the trunk open all the way because you might hit the button accidentally and then anyone can see that the trunk is open. Some friends of mine took a trip to theme parks in California a few years ago and that's exactly what happened, someone accidentally pressed the trunk open button and all their stuff got stolen. I think a couple inches is enough for you to push it up the rest of the way but is inconspicuos enough for noone else to notice.

make sure the rubber trunk gasket that runs by the taillights is tucked under the lip of the taillight..if you have it on top it gets stuck on the lid making it harder to close and open.

Mine also opens about 2 inches tops... I have since installed a lip on it and now, an inch if lucky.

I brought it to service recently and they told me that is "normal"
