Does your engine tick?
Jw if Im the only one it's nothing serious it's been like this since I bought it with 23000 mi on it but it bothers me I like a nice silent engine(well you know what I mean) it just sounds like a idle tick goes away completely when u give it some gas.

Make sure spark plugs are tight.

If it's a loud tick that you can hear from inside the car, get it checked out ASAP. It could very well be a loose spark plug as previously mentioned.
If you can only hear it when standing next to the engine with the hood up: fairly typical for the J32A3....

It's always going to tick a little. But it shouldn't be too audible at idle when your windows are up. If it is, then you might be a bit out of lash on your valves.
Pretty much all Honda engines tick a little. It's just the nature of the valves. If you think the J series is bad, go listen to an F23 out of a 6th gen Accord. I had a valve adjustment from the dealer and that thing still ticked like mad. The tech said it's just the way the engines are designed.
Some on Azine have gotten their engine to quiet down with a very thorough valve job. I think I Hate Cars was quoted as saying his sounded like a "sewing machine". Mine's close to that, especially when I switched to Redline 5W-30. I'm due for my timing belt soon and will probably have them do a valve adjustment when they're in there.

I always wondered the same thing. I thought there was something wrong with my engine. I was expecting it to be more quiet so I checked vids online and all of them had that ticking sound on idle. Glad to know its not only me.

You should post a vid of your idle sound. Considering you have the lowest miles on the forum. Would probably give everyone an idea of what the engine suppose to sound like. Since I highly doubt your spark plugs are loose or anything like that at 8.5k.

Here is a short video clip I just took of my TL-S. This is more or less how the vehicle should sound from the factory. You hear the engine running obviously, but no tick noises whatsoever. I only filmed the drivers side, but both sides sound identical.
Be sure to select HD and turn volume up so you can hear it good. Hopefully this video helps out.

NOTE. There is only one video below, no clue why two videos keep posting.

My '05 is nearly silent as well unless sitting next to a wall. In my garage it is quiet, but sitting 12" from a wall in drive-thru there is a light tick you can hear when you roll your window down.

Mine makes a loud ticking noise when I start it up every morning. Loud enough that I can hear it over the stereo. It gradually goes away as I start driving, maybe after 15 minutes. Is this just due to a cold start?

No. There is something wrong. View my video above, that is a cold start. The engine should not tick that's why I posted that video as requested so people can get an idea of what an almost new Type S should sound like. I mean I suppose the cars will have some minor valvetrain noise, but certainly nothing that gets your attention.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that heard the same thing, although I wonder if that is valvetrain noise or injector noise

Well maybe you guys have better ears than mine because I keep listening and I hear no ticking whatsoever. I hear the engine running obviously, but even at full volume in HD with my Klipsch computer speakers, or even better in person, I just dont hear ticking. Ahh well, regardless its a pretty quiet motor thats for sure.

I can hear it as soon as you open the door and for pretty much the rest of the video. It's not bad or anything abnormal, but it is noticeable to me. My '04 sounds the same way.
