Does Your Dealer Give You a Loaner?
#41
Sterling Acura of Austin never provides me a loaner for oil changes because they say it doesn't take over 2 hours. However every time I schedule an oil change it always takes longer than 2 hours. I'm going to start taking my car to a different Acura dealership.

Chapman acura of Tucson offers loaners, but only if your service is going to take a long time. They don't offer loaners for oil changes. I agree with earlier posts: why tie up one of their loaners for an entire day when they are finished in 20 minutes with the oil change? They are super fast with oil changes so it doesn't really matter to me.

I always get a loaner regardless of what time I show up at the dealer. The trick is to make an appointment and request a loaner. Most times I can pick from a TSX, TL, TL-S or RDX. When It comes to an oil change I always add something to the list so that it can take longer. That way I know for sure that i'm getting a loaner.

Acura of Dayton has a policy that you have to reserve your loaner 60 days prior to your car being serviced. I don't even think I can predict my oil changes in that time manner let alone a general car problem. But to each their own, I go to Acura of Columbus now.

Loaner
Yes I get one (But I never ask for one when I am getting an oil service) I got a 06 RDX fully load when they change a wheel hub bearing and both side mirrior actuators on my 05A TL last week, I also have a 05 RSX Type S.

In case you didn't find out by now...Acura isn't a Luxury Car...just an overpriced Honda.

Do you know how many standard services a average Acura Los Angeles dealership does a day? A LOT!!! So if they were to provide a loaner to every customer that we would be a shit load of loaner cars. An average oil change with wash takes about 45 minutes to 90 minutes. This is why they provide shuttle services. Now warranty work is a different story. If your car is going to be in the shop for more than half the day then there shouldn’t be a problem providing a service loaner.

I always get a loaner, even for annual emission/safety inspection, which usually takes less than 1.5 hrs. For quick service turnaround, I'd rather stay in the customers' waiting lounge to use the free internet and drink the brewed coffee. As to car wash, my dealer hand washes but does not vacuum. Does your dealer also vacuum the interior?

My TL can do this, too!
My dealer - Radley's of Fall Church - will provide a loaner, but I have to reserve one at least ten days before I bring in the car. Most of their loaners are TSX's, but I know they'll give out an RDX from time to time and maybe a TL...
I've only once gotten a loaner from them. It was a TSX. When I would turn on the lights of the vehicle, the dashboard would produce a horrible high-pitched whine that drove me nuts! The TSX is nice, but I am sooo glad I have a TL!

The only caveat is, if I call for service within 1-2 days, they will say "well if you want a loaner, you'll have to bring it on xxxxxx day"....which usually is a few days after I wanted to but its ok. NOW I just call way ahead of time to ensure that I get a loaner.

I always got a RSX loaner, or a no-charge rental (Thrifty Rental?) from Smithtown. If I needed a loaner it was usually more than a week wait. But that was more than two years ago when I still had the '01 CL-S.
The TL hasn't seen the dealer since it left. I guess their loaner pool has changed since then.

Just so you know JetJock, Lexus is just an overpriced Toyota, and Infiniti is just an overpriced Nissan, and I know this will be a shocker but Audi is just an over priced VW.
If you don't like it, spend the big bucks over at BMW or Mercedes.
or if that is to cheap for you maybe a Maserati or Aston Martin will do.

Jayster, just make sure that on your next service when you get the phone call about how the service was, be sure to give them low marks on the survey and specifically say how disappointed you are that you didn't get a loaner for the service. You will see how quick that will change for you. They are in such competition with David McDavid Acura on the north side of town to get the Precision Team Dealer award, they will do almost anything to make sure they get good marks.
By the way David McDavid is GREAT on service, but I would never buy an Acura from them.

Until very recently even Aston Martins had a lot of Ford/Jag in them. Maserati's had some Ferrari a couple of years ago but that is a "premium badge".

Just be happy that you're getting anything is my opinion. I agree with you hoc_ if your car is going to be there all day you deserve a loaner for sure...

Try Plano. They have a bunch of Chryslers, but they also have a handful of dealer stock acuras of all models (well.. haven;t seen an RL).
I have had my car in there twice and got a TSX both times. They offered me a loaner when I was in there last week, but the work was only going to take an hour, so I just hung out and played on their free internets.
EDIT: and for the record, I get better esponse and friendlier service from my Acura dealership than I ever have from Saab, Volvo, or BMW.

Yes when you call in for an appt make sure you ask them to provide you with a loaner. It depends on the availabilty of it but just bring it in when there is one available. I took my car in to Kearny Mesa Acura and got a loaner when i left my car there over night. I got a TSX loaner which we took to Solana Beach and drove up HWY 101 for fun. It was a nice fun car to drive but I miss my TL, the smooth drive of it. Also if you have NBP, don't let them wash your car b/c damn those swirl marks! I will be complaining but then it was a free wash so...but still I should've said declined, my car looks horrid! Have to do some major detailing soon.

Acura of Boston -
I'm always offered a loaner and so far I haven't paid for it. I've been back for warranty service and if the time required is 3+ hours they cover it. Always a TSX.
My wife brought her ES330 in to the Lexus dealer for normal maintenance stuff and they gave her a loaner - GMC Canyon pick up truck!!!
The applogized profusely, but that is all they had left.

Loaner
Acura of Seattle always gives me a loaner no matter what, and it's always a nice car. It went in for diagnostics yesterday and the gave me an 06 MDX, before it was a 06 TL in 06 and and RSX too.

I checked "no" simply because my dealer's policy is loaners are only for work that will take more than two hours. However, I have gotten them for oil changes and such, I simply had to schedule it and request it ahead of time.

If the maintenance or repair is going to take a while, say longer than an hour, then yes the loaner is offered. But if it's going to be quick, then no, a loaner is really not required.

Loving my 08 TLS!
If it is just regular maintenance, no loaner is needed and that is understandable. If it is a major service which will take several hours, the dealership (Rallye Acura) always gave me a loaner. Most of the time they gave me 06 - 08 TSX, but one time I got a RDX which was pretty fun to drive.

I've always gotten a loaner from my dealer, but I've never taken the car in for just an oil change or similar since I do that stuff myself so that may be why.
I don't know if others have had similar experience, but my dealer tends to use a loaner as a reason to put off working on your car. What I mean is, your car is less of a priority since they assume you don't need it back right away since you have the loaner. I understand the logic to a point but it almost always happens that they don't "get to" my car the first day it's at the dealer for things that they say won't take long.

I've never had a problem getting a loaner for warranty service. For oil changes (my oil & filter) I don't require a loaner because I schedule it on Saturdays.
