yes the MID does show MPG you have to scroll until your MID say "Trip Computer" then you hit select and it will tell your MPG.

Thanks, just tried it and it came up.
It showed me 27MPG, how accurate is that?
I'm at half tank on the needle and I've gone 150 miles. Is that about right for half tank?

My trip meter is showing 150 miles.

The needle is at about 1/2 tank.
What do you normally get when your needle is at 1/2?

Needle 1/2 -

100% city, gentle on the pedal...usually 100 or 110 miles
30% city and 70% highway and nottt being gentle, usually gets 150 miles
100% highway gets 400+ miles

My numbers.

Hi Bruce,

Welcome to the forum. You might want to do a search on MPG if you get a chance and you'll get a bunch of hits. There is a lot of information that you can find by doing this search.

Don't forget to visit the 'Garage' for other helpful bits of information as well. The TL is a great car and there's lots of information on this car in this forum.

Good luck!

Something else to remember is that the MID reading is your average MPG (or L/100 km on Canadian cars) since the last time you reset the trip computer, not an "instant readout" showing the MPG you're getting at the moment. If you reset it when you fill up and then drive 250 miles all on the Interstate, for example, you may get a fairly high reading, but if you then drive 100 miles all in heavy urban traffic you'll see the number drop off fairly quickly. (Consider that when you're stopped, be it at a red light or in traffic or whatever, you're getting zero MPG at that particular moment.)

Another thing to keep in mind (atleast for my TL) is that the needle moves much quicker from full to half, then half to empty. I will average around 150 miles for the first half but always get more more then that for the second half. I just hit my best so far, which was 347 on one tank.

Driven right this car will impress you..

You all actually pay attention to the needle on the gas gauge? I pay more attention to how many miles I have driven then the needle usually. I guess I don't drive enough anymore to really pay any attention at all. If the yellow light isn't on, I have no worries.

I know that if I am stuck in traffic, I can expect about 300 miles from a tank before I need to concern myself with looking for a gas station. If I am doing all highway, it is 350-425 depending on conditions.

I watch the needle as my driving habits are not very consistent as far as city/highway go...

Me too but you would think you would refer to the manual when it comes to buttons inside of a car

Maybe he's in Hulk mode now and he can't press the buttons because his fingers are too big.

To this day, I still don't understand why they didn't provide an option to see instantaneous MPG as you drive rather than just the average for the tank so everyone could adjust their driving habits for maximum mileage, especially in this era of fluctuating gas prices. Yeah, I know some of that is common sense, but no matter. BMW's have had instantaneous MPG gauges since the 90's. Even the Honda Accord Nav system's trip computer has had it since 2003. We Acura buyers pay more than Honda buyers and have every right to expect at least the same or more, NOT LESS!

....
ACURA on this one!

^ my buddies 02' MDX non-navi does it real time.

I like how it is On my TL because watching those numbers flicker and change out of the corner of my eye got annoying the week I had to borrow it.

Too each their own I suppose.

Instant is available for those that do the navi hack. It's useful if you're trying to adjust your driving style for best mpg. You'll then understand how some TLs like mine only get 13mpg when the average speed is so low and some get 26mpg city when they average a higher mph.

i usually get about 150~160 miles at half tank while averaging 21~23mpg which isn't too bad consider the fact my office is 2.5 miles away from my house, only time to go on highway is on the weekend

the navi hack has the trip computer that shows the instant.. it also records everything and you can choose if you want the car to reset the trip computer (on the navi) everytime u refuel, or if you want to do it manually.. you also get to see the history.. its cool, and very useful.. and if you decide to do it, it took me about 2 CDs to figure out, but only burn the modded files onto the CD or DVD, whatever you choose..

^^^ I hope you do know that only the 04-06 Navi model can do that instant MPG right? 07-08 can't do that trick lol.

Will it work with the 2012 disc?
