Hey- its getting older more polluting and gas guzzlers off the road,, to be crushed into beer cans- thats good for the environment in a way that could slow global warming and ozone issues
Car salesmen and dealerships are making money, new cars will need service,,that keeps techs employeed, who buy from the lunch wagon, who buys his kids shoes,,,
The US steel industry is called upon to make more product to build new cars, now that the car lots have finally been cleared of last years stock
So they under estimated how many people would jump at the trade in when dealers are matching the 4500- 9000 off gets down to what you really should be paying for it!
Now they approved more funds because its a program thats working,,every little bit helps.
I think they should have given the original bailout 20 billion to us in the first place- to go buy more efficient cars with! Everybody gets a new car!!!!
Vote 01tl4tl for King
I love the TL, but it sucks for in town mileage

The concern I have about the program, that no one seems to be asking, is what will happen with the new cars after they are sold. I think we all can agree that a car salesman will do their best to sell you the most car you can afford whether your payment is $200 or $500 to go from a car considered a 'clunker', and hopefully paid off, to now having a new monthly bill for the next 3-5 years in this economy. I think we’ll see a boom of repos in the next couple of months/years of cars that people bought using this program that they can no longer afford. Being able to afford the purchase price of the car is one thing being able to afford the yearly taxes/vehicle registration, insurance, and maintenance is another. Especially if you are a DIY type person who was able to save money by keeping the clunker running and now have upgraded to a Prius good luck working on that car yourself.
This is just my on this program I really hope it works and the money people are spending on new cars trickles down to all the parts and goods that go into the construction of a car and help keep people employed.

Maybe, but certainly less expensive and more beneficial for Americans than invading Iraq.
Makes sense to me, a shot in the arm to the ailing auto industry, gets gas guzzlers off the streets helping to move us in the right direction away from OPEC, increased auto sales trickle down to increased state and local revenue as well as jobs. Certainly better than giving money to Wall Street so they can give ridiculous bonuses to rich fat cat executives.

But hey, I'm just bringing in historical reasoning and logic, so we'll save that for a different section of this forum
