Do You Believe This

I've posted some recent threads on a problem I've had with my new TL drifting to the right. See "Problems & Fixes". So I bring the car in today and after replacing the right front tire and realigning the front end the service rep asks me if the car has been in an accident. Was I shocked and immediately responded with my sales rep happening to be walking by the service area, I countered immediately "did the dealer sell me a car that had been in an accident." It turns out the right rear control arm was bent. Two weeks to get the part in and another trip to the dealer. The car still drifts to the right with the new tire up front and a partial front end alignment. They even pumped up the right front tire to 40PSI. I'm sending a letter of complaint to Acura in advance of taking it back. Any thoughts and any advice?? Yes, I will be filing a Lemon Law issue if they can't get this car to track straight. Do you all think a new control arm will alleviate the issue or is this bent arm indicative of a more serious issue??? Appreciate the help.

Let's assume that the car WAS in an accident or some other thing which caused the damage before you took delivery and I am going to assume you purchased the car in good faith that you were buying a new car. Depending upon your state's laws, you may very well have something here. Some states have laws which require disclosure and if these things did, in fact, happen before you took delivery, then you had a right to know of them.

However, if you signed the papers, paid your money, and closed the deal, and the car stayed at the dealers for some reason (additional option installs, you couldn't take delivery right away) and THEN the mishap occurred, then onus is on you.

Do you homework and good luck.

Can you believe this

The car was brand new. 3 miles on it when I test drove it. I'm going to start the Lemon Law process if they can't fix it. I've had the car less than 30 days. I did notify the Acura representative of the driving issue when she called to get my experience with the purchase. Monday a formal letter is going to Acura.

In order to properly align a car you must do a 4 wheel alignment. You MUST align the rear first and then front. Otherwise you are wasting your time and money. I wouldn't be to concerned that your car was ever in an accident. The rear control arms are VERY thin and can be bent very easily. It could have happened in shipping or someone could have backed over or into something before you got it. I am sure once the new control arm is put on and the car is properly aligned it will track perfectly. I wouldn't be so quick to claim or even think about lemon law.

I agree Give them a chance to replace the part. I'm sure they didn't sell this car knowing it was damaged. It could have happen when the car hauler loaded it or if it was put on a rail car. When they strap it down it may have been bent then.

Maybe no one know's it happened.

Good luck
