Do tints help with the hot car in the summer?

All of you (well most, depending on where you live) know that when you leave a car in the sun for more than an hour during the summer, you open the door and its a heatwave. My question is, does tinting the window help reduce the sunrays getting into the car (therefore having the inside stay cooler)?

Sorry if this is a stupid queston. Thanks.

Getting a Heat Sheild for the windsheild will also help cut down how hot the interior will get sitting in the sun.

Yes, if you get the right tinting.

Also, don't forget to press and hold the door unlock button a second time after you press it to unlock the vehicle so that your moonroof and windows all open to let the hot air escape before you get in!

it helps a lot. you wont believe how much it actually helps. it also protects your interior as well. sun damage on your leather seats and dash and what not can be very evident after a couple years. in a tinted car, it lasts a lot longer

i have 35% titanium tint all around, and 50% titanium on the windshield... it's not exactly summer yet, but it's gotten up to around 80~ degrees here in michigan with plenty of sun. it definitely helps keep the car cooler, but not if it were to be parked in the sun for more than a couple of hours. but the tint does help with keeping the car cooler while driving in the sun, as well as protecting the interior from sun damage.

not to mention the car looks hella better with tints, as well as giving you some privacy.

from my experience tinting actually helps keep the car somewhat cooler in the summer. i was surprised on my last car. its not going to keep it cool to a point where its comfortable but it definitely lowers the temperature a good amount.

Yes it will keep your car cooler. I live in alabama and it averages around 95 in the summer and the tint and the windshield sunhade makes a huge diffrence. I would have to estimate 25-30 degrees. Not to mention if you buy good tint that is of good quality your car will be 90% protected from uv rays. I have huper optic ceremic tint and it makes a noticable diffrence.

A tint will not stop your interior from heating up when parked in the sun on a hot day. However, the tint will make it easier for your a/c to keep the car cool once its going. Living in Florida, I tilt the sunroof immediately on entering the car to exhaust the hot air (hot air rises). Once its cool inside, I close the sunroof.

However, driving rural roads at night the tint makes the side windows totally useless and the view out the rear trusts other drivers to have properly working headlights.

I just got 50% up front and 35% on the rears ... and today was one of the hotter days ... usually the car would be really really hot ... and it was noticably cooler.

I do have a heatsheild also ... so tint+heatsheild is the way to go.

Talking Absolutely... with even more benefits

Most definitely a big ! I would say my Anthracite/Ebony dropped 25+ degrees in the sun... beyond looking SO much better with tint, that alone is worth the price of admission.

There are other significant benefits... one being that your leather will be protected from the damaging UV rays (as long as you go with a good quality UV blocking tint). I have been suprised to note that my A/C system works SIGNIFICANTLY less since I got my TL tinted... I can put it on 74 or 75 and it stays very comfortable where as before I was having to run at 70-72 and the air was running on high most all of the time. This will translate into better fuel economy of course...

Tint will also prevent your left arm from tanning darker than your right

A tinted vehicle in california is much more comfortable to sit in than one that is not. This is my first vehicle that I've applied tint to, and I can definitely vouch for its effectiveness on keeping the car cool. And as mentioned earlier in the thread, definitely use the remote to roll down the windows! No more baking in yourself in the car
