Do Pictures do it justice?

I'm not saying this out of pride of ownership, but I don't think that the Acura marketing pictures do this car justice. I was in the market and looked at the Jag 3.0, MBZ C320, BMW 3, Cady CTS...but didn't look at the TL because (IMHO) the car had no appeal...until I saw it in person. Even now I don't believe the official marketing pix do this car justice.

Did anyone else have that opinion?

I agree ..... I too think the tl is much more impressive in real life than any picture i have ever seen........actually to the point that i can't convey on a picture what the car really looks like. it sounds stupid...but thats how I feel!

The pics in the sale brochure are very good - BTW, most of them are completely fake, the only real part is the car. There is software that can put your car in any foreground or background, alter the lighting, even simulate shadows, reflections from rain or bodies of weater, the whole deal. I have seen it at SAE conventions - it is amazing.

I tend to agree with you... just one look at Jag's marketing pictures will show you how great the photos make their cars look. Not that they aren't pretty cars in person... but they don't have the same punch as in the photos. As a semi-serious amateur photographer, I really have to admire Jaguar's marketing team for this. I find the exact opposite with the TL. You really have to see it in person to appreciate it.

Where did you buy your TL? Montgomeryville? That's where I got mine (I'm in Blue Bell).

What I did not like about the brouchure was it did not show all the colors. Only SSM (most of them) a AM and NBP. They must really like the SSM. Also does not show all the interior or even 1 picture of the Non-Navi dash which is really blah. Only got pictures from this forum.

The reasons for that in my mind is simple. Acura wants the car to be appealing to the most number of people. The navi dash does look more integrated (this coming from a non-navi owner). It doesn't even have pictures of a full interior with the auto tranny, because it was trying to emphasize the sporty nature of the TL.

I can see some marketer somewhere saying that silver shows off the lines of the car the best, while the rest of the colors are duller and tend to hide the lines and shadows, unless they are seen closeup. I have to tell you that pictures of the anthracite TL and the white diamond pearl TL's don't do it justice. It is amazing how they look in the right light.

All that said, I do agree with you that the brochure should have more colors. I would liked to have seen the camel interior especially in the pictures.

Being a first generation car being introduced tight to a deadline, I suspect that they had only one photo sample available. The '05 brochure, like any other later generation vehicle, will get the benefit of all the color combos being easily found near the photo studio.

It also apprears that they "tightened" the body seams along the doors to 1mm tolerances. I pay attention to detail like most of you guys here and caught the Photochopped changes. I have to admit the that body seams are pretty even and small but not as tight as the photos depicted them as.

And as any advanced amateur or professional photographer will tell you, the camera lense's "perspective" as a result of its focal lenght (ie. 24mm wide angle and 200mm telephoto in 35mm film cameras) can make a car look long or short. Therefore, the person behind the lens has as much to do with it as the person who chooses which shots get published.

Yes, Montgomeryville Acura about 4 weeks ago. Have you used them for service yet? When did you get yours? I'm considering a clear bra and there is a place in Allentown...do you know of any reputable installers?

Thanks all...it seems that there are a number of interesting reasons for the car not looking as "sharp" in the adverts. I wondered why.
