Do I have a faulty transmission?

Today, I got off from work and got into my TL to come home.
As soon as I shifted from P into R, my car made a clunking noise and pushed back like another car hit my front bumper. (The car did not actually move because I put my foot on the brake and parking brake was on)

Is something wrong with my transmission?

I've got the same noise in my 05 from P to R and an associated clunk that can be felt. In other threads here I've read, people have suggested that this normal. Yes,no?

Motor mounts were the first thing that came to my mind, but this only happens when shifting into reverse. How do you go about diagnosing the mounts without removing them from the vehicle for inspection.

Well i heard that normally when a motor mount is broken you can tell by increased vibration.

I should've been clearer, how do you go about locating the failed mount.

But, this is a brand new car. 2008 TL with only 1600 miles on it.
If engine mount is broken, don't you usually get steering wheel vibration at the stop light? I had this problem with my old Mitsubishi.
Anyway I only experienced this problem (the clunk) once so far.

If that's the case, have the dealer neutralize the mounts. Look at page three:

I have the same thing so I did some research on it. This is normal driveline slack. Some cars make a slight sound and others don't, you could buy two brand new cars of the same model and one will have it the other won't, it's nothing to worry about.
