directions to take dash/ nav apart?

Why would you want to take the dash apart? I'd be afraid of getting rattles and having the dash look bad after putting it back together. I've seen pictures on this forum of a guy who had the whole dash torn apart to install something(I don't remember what it was)...and the pictures scared the s**t out of me.
