Directions to Paint Engine Cover?

I know that I been looking at different threads, but somehow I don't see the directions for painting the engine cover. If anyone who painted their engine cover, please explain to me the specific details to paint the engine cover. From what sand paper grit I use and how long I have to wait for it to dry up. Please be specific as possible and include pics. Thank you so much.

(BTW I'm using a G2 engine paint kit with the spray gun)

I sanded with 600 wet then prepped it with a spray used to prep plastic for painting .. available at most auto parts stores ..

Sprayed several light coats 10 minutes apart then the next day I cleared them with a couple light coats then a heavy one.

I used VHT engine rattle can paint.

Jesstzn, you should get the bronze CAI to go with the cover.

Prep as Jesstzn mentioned (obviously - his looks great! ).

It's been awhile since I've painted yet back then it was known as a plastic/rubber "adhesive promoter." Without an initial coat of a product like this the paint would most likely flake off with any flex of the part. We used it all the time for interior trim panels.

Good luck and post pics of your finished mod.

Off topic-ish.. but how much do new covers[i mean every single one of them under the hood] cost? Can I get the dealership to get them for me?

So wet it with water after sanding the engine cover? How long do I have to sand the engine cover?

No, he was referring to "wet sanding". It is when you get a small bucket and put some water in it. You then dip the sandpaper in it so that the paper is wet while you are sanding. Also helps to get a spray bottle and mist the part as you are sanding it. This process helps smooth out the sanding process and the water washes away the "debris"....

Make sure to use only automotive grade paints. I used a psuedo-pearl that was NOT automotive grade and it turned the cover yellow/brown when heated.

After seeing how well this has come out on some other's cars on the board, I am thinking about doing this but I would like to get it paint matched(or at least pretty close to the Kinetic Blue) to my car as someone else has done on here with WDP.

Anyone have any suggestions as to a color that would come close to matching mine, or would i just have to buy a ton of touch up paint from the dealer?

I may have to go this route as well for a cheap cosmetic mod. I definitely like the bronzed cover!

I've painted half a dozen engine covers with standard paint (body color matched) and had no issues ever.

You can check the link below. They sell OE Color Matched paint in spray cans. Tad pricey, but it *should* be a good match.

I know this is an old thread, I am looking at color matching my RRP engine cover. Already ordered the paint. Wondering if I should use a heat resistant primer? Any thoughts?
