Dillemma of a lifetime....
Honestly I could care less about a navi; it just so happened that the type s came w/ one and all the other options that base tl's don't. I hardly use my navi b/c I know where I'm going. For others it looks cool or "the bitches and hos like it" LMAO. You should use the money and only that amount you would've spent on the navi and improve the performance on your car; that would be well worth it. Oh and since you can't park, get the camera; I guess it'll help.

I kind of regretted not getting the navi, but I saved $1,500 plus i have my garmin which is better than the acura navi, so I hear. I didn't really like the rearview camera, either, and I did get the parking sensors installed which help a great deal, since I can't park for shit, especially in NYC.
Rearview camera FTW. Helps my aim when I try and run over kids and strollers.
In all seriousness, I had to arm wrestle the wife to get the Navi TL. And now that we have it, she regrets not getting the Navi in the RDX. Not enough where she wants a portable one but she now sees the value/convenience/benefit of having it.
As for the OP, meh, just get a portable one and live with it. Push comes to shove, WHEN you get your next car, don't bring your dad.

but yea my choices i was seriously considering were between the honda si, acura tl, or a g35.
But my dads requirment was it had to be a sedan which took out the g35 and so it was between a honda si and tl- both beautiful things...but i chose the right one.

I cannot fathom why people think that a portable navi is going to be stolen? They are a dime a dozen. You could probably leave your car unlocked in the ghetto and not have this stolen. Yes, they are portable and able to be stolen, but they just aren't that great an item anymore. I think every thief already has one...
To the OP, don't stress that you didn't get the OEM navi, but if you really want it done right from an aftermarket sense it's going to cost you. My portable GPS I had before my OEM unit was garbage, it got me lost just as much as the OEM one does. Plus it was a pain, no matter how well you attached the sticky cup to your windshield when it got really hot it would always fall off and ding up the dash.
Just remember for your next car purchase, OEM navs are going to increase the resale value of your car (if you care about that). There are a ton of aftermarket options though (that AVIC-D3 is one of the best ways to go IMO). My little brother has one of the high end Alpline touchscreens in his car and to get the nav addition I want to say it's an additional $1500 to the already $1500 headunit.

I'm wondering if all these cheapskates who didn't get a navi can even know what they did with that $1500-2000? Probably not. And for most of them it's $2000/36 months. I just don't see how the navi can be a big deal on a car that cost most people $35k+? If you wanted to be cheap, why not get a Honda Civic? Makes no sense to me. If you got your car used, then it definitely is required to get a navi screen. The price difference I noticed during my shopping period was negligible on the used TLs.
The navi makes EVERYTHING on the TL dash better. I feel really bad for this kid.
Also, someone said they didn't care for backup cameras. I can see not wanting to pay for one of those because that is more gravy than is the navi, but it is damned cheap to purchase aftermarket. It's also pretty easy to install yourself in one afternoon.

Yeah some "dilemma"
The models i was looking at Used TL Navi Vs. No Navi there was a significant difference in pricing, sometimes 1500-2500.
I decided against Navi model due to the price, If ever a time where i don't know where i'm going i'd definitely opt for a portable gps (200 bucks!)
Some people can't live without it, personally i don't even care, i'm too busy driving to be messing with an lcd screen or looking over for directions.
I imagine we all have different driving habits, built in navi would be good for a person that constantly travels to different cities. (business) End of the day i don't regret not getting Navi TL, an accessory i can live without.

--Clark's example: A high-end 2007 Acura TSX sedan should be worth 55% after three years without navigation, 53% with. The $2,000 navigation option winds up adding no more than $600 to the value of the 3-year-old car, he says.--

i would'nt say its the delleima of a life time....its just a NAVI dude....big deal, i bought one w/o navi, because i have a freakin tomtom that cost me 200bucks and gets me where i need to go. the other TL's on the lot were anywhere from 2-3k more in mark up because of the Navi...And i would venture to say if thats your biggest problem....you got it made my man! I told my self i would pay my dad back for some times he bailed me out when i was makin NO money in the Marines.....Then comes, rent, car, bills and more bills!...still saying i'll pay him back one day, but hey man thats what parents are for, i only hope one day i can help my kids out if they need it! There not getting a new TL, but relish the fact that one day i'll be able to give my kids what my dad helped me get..... Your not spoiled, your fortune to have a family that can afford to help you out. good luck bro!....i will say that the stock navi does look REALLY good though....but IMO, not worth the extra money....
