Did you buy extended acura care warranty?
Hi All,
Could someone please let me know if you have got extended warranty whether there is a different between what you got with the car and the extended one. Also please share how your extended warranty has already paid off the investment you made.
Thanks in advance

If it's a CPO car the Acura extended Warranty will cover you 7 years 100K for opriginal date of service, and they say bumper to bumper, but there are quite a few exceptions. I purchased the CareCcare warranty ($850)because of all the elctronics and Nav, but in the 3 years I've owned the car, I've only replaced the sepentine belt, cabin filter, air filter, battery and oil changes. Other than that I haven't needed any repairs, so no warranty use.

< did not buy an extended warranty and has not regretted the decision (yet). No repairs/service other than normal wear & tear. I have 75k on the odo.

My car is two months old and has about 6000 miles on it. At that rate my original warranty will be over in about two years and an extended warranty will cost about $1000 and expire in about four years when I hit 100,000 miles.
I bought an Acura after having many Hondas and know they are very dependable. My last car, a 2001 Honda Accord had 192,000 miles with no work other than normal stuff like brakes, tires, oil changes, etc.
Extended warranty is major problem insurance. I'm gambling that my car won't have any major problems and so I didn't buy the extended warranty. If it does have a major problem, I have saved $1000 from this car and other cars I've owned and will have to pay at that time. No biggie.

I purchased the acuracare last month only because all the electronics in the car. I also have owned many hondas without any major problems but like I said because of the electronics.I suggest you purchase soon so you can get locked in the 5/60 with no deductible.

My car is just over a year old, I have not gotten the extended warranty yet. If my car starts to show signs of trouble I may consider it but otherwise probably not. I would not buy anything other than the AcuraCare warranty, no third party warranties etc. And remember to comparison shop, many on-line dealers will give you a much better price than your local dealer will, and you can always use that to try to negotiate with the local dealer if you choose.
Personally, I would rather use a trusted local shop for repairs once the warranty expires because in my case the service department does not leave me with a good impression. I am very picky when it comes to my car.

I have an 04 TL/NAVI, I purchased extended care a little before the 50k mark. Due to the Honda class action settlement, the original was kicked up above 50k mile, something like 54k. I bought the extended warranty for the navi and electronics mainly. Since then, my car has been in the shop only once for a radiator leak that was covered under warranty, my cost was $17 that day for some pipe.
I just wonder if the class action settlement will kick up my warranty to 108k.

I purchased an AcuraCare extended warranty in Sept '09 with 49,500 miles on the clock. Hopefully, I'll never need it, but our cars have way too much in electronic equipment for me to take the chance. When I was calling around... plenty of dealers were trying to sell me on 3rd party warranties because they were "better and more extensive".
Before my TL I had an '02 Accord EX V6. I also purchased a HondaCare warranty just before 36,000 miles. Used it just once for an airbag (SRS) sensor. Sold the car in 9/06 (to buy my TL) and got half of the warranty cost refunded.

7 year 100k is powertrain only. Not B to B. I just purchased a CPO TL-S and got to read the fine print tonight.
1 year 12k miles from the orginal standard warranty a CPO gets extended. You can buy the extended warranty from Honda for 7 year 100k for $1500 that is bumper to bumper.

For AcuraCare, you have two choices - 48mos/48K miles if your ODO has between 40,000 and 49,999 - if your car has 30,000 - 39,999 you can get a 60mos/60K miles - so I did. I paid $1,285 from Bernardi for the AcuraCare in what seems to be inline with everyone else which is the electronics. My HFL has already gone out and that would have been $700. New NAV screen? 1800. I'm not concerned with the engine, it's everything else.
You can still call around to get over the phone purchases for warranties, and I think Bernardi was around 1K in your situation being close to 4yrs/50K. Good luck!

if I bought a CostGuard warranty at the dealership, is that considered an Acura warranty? The dude said that the owner of the dealership owns the warranty company. But for some reason I still think its considered a third party warranty. With third party warranties, do I have to go to a dealership to get something fixed or it can be a mechanic of my choice?

I just picked up a CPO 05 TL and got a pretty good deal on it from Sierra Acura in Alhambra, CA. I was offered the AcuraCare (or whatever they call it) for an additional $1200, down from the original $1500 they were asking. I figured it was worth it simply for the electronics and not having to deal with all of the paperwork that might be required of a 3rd party warranty company.

I bought the extended warranty and GLAD i bought it considering all the problems i have had with this 08 TL-S. Love the car to death but the problems that i have had to deal with has been very annoying! It hasnt been MAJOR things just alotta minor things which takes up my time, gas and a headache to keep going back to the dealership. I would recommend it!

The CPO certification will give you the additional 1 year or 12K over the factory warranty, and the 7 year/100K on the power train with no additional cost, but as the OP was asking about purchasing the Car Care warranty, my response was to that question, and it is a 7 year 100k bumper to bumper warranty from the original in service date. To repeat, Acura calls it a bumper to bumper warranty, but there are quite a few components excluded.

Here is my story:
Bought my 2006 TL 2 years ago, and bought the extended warranty for $2300 (7 year). I was ripped off. After I realized that , I refunded the warranty after a few months, and I got my money back for $2000
My car is used certified, and I drive low mileage. So, I will have the original warranty until 2010 + additional 1 year CPO warranty.
If you plan to keep the car longer than 4-5 years, then you should get the warranty. Otherwise, use the $1500 to put additional down payment for a new car

I havent got to the point of an extended warranty, but did buy a wheel warranty through Acura who bought it from a third party company.
When I went to get my wheels repaired a couple months later, the warranty company had closed up shop and skipped town.
Acura said Sorry, better luck next time.
Stay away from third party warranties!

Bought the extended warranty from the dealer, mine came with Acura Care 7 year / 100,000, scratch and dent removal on all the metal panel and wheels, and if I get a tear on the leather they will fix it. I think the scratch removal and leather protection is only for the first 3 years.

I purchased the Acura Care Warranty on my last 3 Acuras, but won’t on the next one.
1995 Legend 6-speed coupe purchased new – extended warranty was a good deal as I had some expensive repairs at about 80K.
1998 RL purchased with 30K (non-CPO) – extended warranty broke even as it paid for the rear window actuators when they went out at about 70K. Also had a couple of other minor expenses.
2003 TL purchased new – extended warranty was a bad deal (so far) as I now have 90K on the car and ZERO use of the extended warranty.

However, many Acura dealers have gone with CostGuard because of the adaptability they have with designing the warranty coverage, and the financial officer of the dealership is an administrator for the programme. So the dealership will be able to help you make sure you get coverage if it's something that really shouuld be covered.
Financial officers at big dealerships make a decent amount of money, and they are not likely to compromise their positions by selling warranties that cannot be enforced, or by acting like asses in a situation where somebody should get warranty coverage.
In my case, on a new 2010 TL SH-AWD 6-6 TECH, they wrote a CostGuard policy for 72 months and 125,000 miles at a price that was very decent.

Extended warranties purchased at dealerships is a negotiated item, just like everything else you negotiate for when you are buying a new car.
The financial officers make commission on every warranty they sell, but at the same time they can't be stupid or they won't be able to hang onto very lucrative jobs.
I did not really mind paying $1900 for a 125,000 mile warranty from a dealership that is well founded in the enthusiast community where I live.

I'm supposed to pick up a CPO 08 TL Type S on Thursday. I spoke with the F&I guy today - he wasn't available on Saturday. He mentioned the Acura Extended Warranty "Wrap" as 7 years / 100K bumper to bumper with $0 deductible was available for $1095 only until I picked up the car. I have never purchased an extended warranty, but am planning on keeping this for quite some time. What components are excluded?
Also, dropping off for an oil change, getting a '09 loaner and having a few things on your car replaced for free because you weren't paying for it so they just went ahead and did it for you is very nice.
That's pretty over priced as well. New car dealer warranties are fairly cheap, the cost on that was probably under 1k.

I bought my TL used from a Toyota dealership and for charged $1500 for 2 years/24k miles. Reading all this, I think I was cheated. Is there anyway I can opt out of this now? Bought the car less than 2 months ago.

should be pro rated refundable. contact warranty company directly, not the dealer.

So even if I overpaid $1000 on something else, it's okay in my book.
And it's a great car, too. :-)

I called up the dealership and they said I should come in to get my $$ back. I called an Acura dealership up the road and they said 3yr/36k miles for $1395 and I can use an interest free loan to pay that off. Is that a good deal? May car is 04 with 88k miles btw.

In reality it should pay itself off in 125k miles anyway

I got my 07 TL-S with 40k miles. It was CPO which includes 12 months 12k or something like that. I bought the extra warranty for like 7 years 100k. He said it was 1500. I said. nevermind, i wouldn't pay more than 850 for it, then he was like, ok. you can have it for 850 and i bought it. i got my HFL unit fixed and 3rd gear TSB fixed for free.
