DID 3 G Tl has the same tranny as 2 Gs ?
I have a 3g Tl with the transmission . i was crusing down the hiway In 5th Gear ( At ) My Rpm Jumps To 6 K I pull Over and look smoke comming From my Hood opened it up and see to see some oil spilled beside the tranny. The worst part is that i'm 650 Km From My place and i'm at 116,667 Km i'm out of warranty. i remember seeing a thread while back saying the 2 g transmission's oil comes out and the trany blows. did the same thing happend to me ?

the 04 05 has same issues as the gen2 trans and acura does know it- but gen3rs never got together and made a court case to get extended warranty~
Go speak in person with the service MANAGER, write acura corp for your country and detail azines knowledge of the problem
- your love of the car and brand etc etc - ask for GOODWILL Coverage of the trans

its rare to have an trans oil leak but it is a sign of failure in gen2
Usually the trans slips when hard on gas and D5 light blinks

same transmission until 06 or 07 i am not sure mid 05 the casing was redesigned to allow for better oil flow and that alleviated the need to all the bandaid fixes

I do know that in early to mid 05 the warranty replacement trans for gen2 got the new case with better oil passages, but it didnt completely solve the problem- though it was much improved overall
Its my GUESS that warranty units in gen2 served as a test bed for the changes that were introduced in later years of gen3
lankin- gen2 usa cars got a court ordered 7 year 9 month /109kmiles or 114.5kmiles if part of odometer overreading VINs, canada has been pretty good about matching- especially if you have proof of an oil service at some point- from anywhere-as long as it was done- just the 3 qt method
without doing the full metric conversion, you are near the limits of that and should be able to get `goodwill` from acura Canada--they take care of good people~
read gen2 `Tranny Failure` thread- last 3 pages of 20 will have best postings on help and how to obtain
I have a lot of stuff in there- gleaned from being in the biz and having a contact at acura dealer

It only pukes out of the vent tube when it gets overheated. I would make sure there is no electronic issue causing the torque convertor to not lock.
What type of driving were you doing when this happened? Were you climbing hills?
The rpms shot up because it ran out of fluid. It will likely run ok once you refill it.

To answer the original question, they are more alike than they are different. Some of the lube issues were addressed with the newer transmissions and the supposed clutch surface issue was resolved. I'm still not convinced there was ever a surface issue. I would put money on it being the 3rd and 4th gear sensors causing all of the 3rd gear shudder and slippage problems.

You gave up way too easily. Should've filled it up and driven it around town for a while to see what it would do. If it wasn't slipping prior to the incident it just got a little hot and puked. Probably had a torque convertor that wasn't locking or locking all the way.

ask the shop to document what failed and take pics for you
Send all that with a letter to acura canada and ask for refund for what you spent
Explain distance from home and shop you knew and trusted - tried fluid etc etc
Good Luck with a used trans- hope they went thru it-- not just installed a used one from a crash!

You'll need to do some research as far as the A/T transmission parts are concerned, as some parts are the same '00-'06 TL, some used in the '01-'05 MDX. There are other parts that are '04 only, and parts that are used only in the '04-'06 TL, some '01-'06TL, and also the CL. Quite a variety.
