defects..!!

i was recently driving down the I-95 and i was speeding a lil excessively idk how any of u guys drive on the interstate but i was doing 95-110 the whole way down and suddenly i started hearing a grinding sorta noise so wen i got back down here in south jersey i went to the dealership and had the tech check it out they said that the front drivers side bearing was bad and something was wrong with the rear strut or something like that i don remember off the to of my head right now, so im still under warranty and decided to get it fixed and when i came back to pick up the car it was perfectly fine but wen i got home i started making a noise again and this time it was louder then before i mean its a brand new car and already problems. anyone else been in the same boat as me it just really ticks me off.

Lets see, would help to know WHERE you hear the noise from.

Why were you going 95-110? Your 17, still have many years ahead of you till you know what COULD be out on the road, even I dont go that fast!

17 years old with a $32,000 car going 95-110 mph? The grinding couldn't be do to abuse, could it. Naw, I doubt that.

I'll bet he wonders why young males are so expensive to insure.

Oh, next time, leave out the part about going 110 mph and you'll probably get a lot more help from those who know it all

Please hold the commentary about his driving habits to yourselves.

As for the the grinding issue, let the dealer now that the problem still exists, to be quite honest it sounds like a bearing issue, but if that was already taken care of, I have no idea what it could be. Maybe the brake dust shield is scraping something

Yeah, be sure you let them know you were doing 110 when it happened.

For a "new brand" car, are you not supposed to break it in smoothly? You should read the driver's manual about the break-in procedures, and stop speeding! Excessive speed not only hurts the car, it can kill you, your passengers, and other innocent people!!

okay i got the part about not speeding i have some bad driving habits, but what can i say i'm 17, and i know its not much of an excuse. The only reason i said how fast i was going i thought that might have been the reason i was hearing noises. nfnsquared ive already broken in my car it been a around 5 months since i've had it and i have about 5900+/- miles on it i know the break in period pretty well and i seriously dont see how cruising along at that speed is such a problem and Im not even constantly flooring the gas or anything. so anyways i dropped it off again today but this time i sat there the whole time and this time the problem was these clips near the calipers somewhere and they were literally eating right through the calipers, scraping the sharp edges off, so once again i left my car there and had them fix it. Last time i dropped it off they didnt show me what was wrong wit the bearings, so this time i told the tech when i come back to pick it up Saturday morning i want to see the difference between the last rotor and the new one. He asked strangely why? I said just for my satisfaction. I dont know why i dont really trust the dealership were i bought it from, i know i could always go to another one but the closest one is almost 40-50 miles away from me.

Who cares about your driving... just don't get caught ... if you do, you are in for a big fine and loss of a license! But atleast you are wise enough to make sure your car is safe. Always ask to see broken parts, change parts, etc.... heck, mark your nuts with a line so you know they were moved. Does sound like a wheel bearing... Let us know what is wrong. I had a little noise on my 08 tl-s, it was the break pads. I do mostly city driving, so I had to re-burn in the pads to get off the scouring. Not a bad problem, just the city driving is non-conducive to racing pads.

I'm pretty sure that if you request them to keep the old parts that they remove, they are bound by law to do so. You can then see the difference.

Well, I'm glad to hear that you seem to know you gave some bad habits. That's the first step in modifying your behavior. It's hard to believe you're not invincible at 17. I know, I was there once. I got lucky, I think. It's easy for us older types to say "Been there, done that. Don't recommend it." I hope you don't wind up learning by experience. It's painful.

Good luck with the repairs.

Guys, stop with the posting regarding his age and bad driving habits. We have all been there and done that, and as well learned from our mistakes. Lecturing him now won't really help the OP for his problem with his car.

Now for the problem:
the grinding noise, when does it occur, just in daily driving, after driving for a while, certain speeds, RPM? Also can you hear from which side or from where it is coming?

provisional license+35 to 50mph over the limit+state trooper stopping you= never driving again.

but to assess your problem you should probably answer csmeance.

Does the grinding noise change pitch when you apply the brakes or does it sound the same whether the brakes are applied? Maybe you have sticky caliper and the pads are worn out and rotors hitting the low brake pad indicator warning tab. Your rotors would likely be extremely hot if this occurred and it would smell like something was burning up.

the grinding noise DID occur when i was driving at low speeds. i would say from 5-25 mph after going faster than that its a little hard to hear, but its there, and its coming from the front drivers side. I picked up the car this morning i saw the old rotor and the new rotor and i could see the difference, which satisfies me that everything went "A Okay". i took it for a drive up and down the lot there was no more noises. I have this thing about driving wit my shoes off i know its kind of weird but i was driving around noise free and when i got off the lot i felt vibrations in my steering wheel and vibrations when i hit the brakes. I'm a little picky i notice the littlest thing but its bothering me, i feel like a new car isn't suppose to be that way. So for the third time i took it back and they told me it was normal for me too feel vibrations little in the steering and the breaks which really makes me angry because i know its not suppose to feel that way. i guess its time to take it to another mechanic. maybe?

Did you recently bottom out or anything? I noticed after I dropped my car, I've been bottoming out pretty bad and now I've got a weird hissing/metal noise at low RPMs, from 1st - 3rd gear.

um yea since I've gotten the car I've bottomed out about 4 times that i can remember. i also noticed that my driveway is so steep i cant park my car on my driveway, and the first time i got it i didn't think the car was that low so i went up and it was bad well atleast it sounded bad. there been two times in the same spot it was a careless mistake, happened as i was driving home from work, never noticed it with my old car though. And i dont remember the 4th time but that time wasn't good either. So do u think that may be the problem? and my car isnt lowered or anything, if i could blame someone it would be these damn jersey roads, i know north jersey is even worse then south but they both still suck.!!
