Defeat the variable assist steering??

I am probably not alone in feeling like the steering on our TL's may be a little too loose. To me it has an overboosted feel. I was wondering if anyone knows if this can be adjusted? In another thread, wannatl mentioned that he had an A6 that he removed the relay for the variable assist and that helped. Does the TL have a similar relay or fuse?

If anyone out there has a service manual could you do the board a favor and see if there is anything in there about disabling or adjusting the variable assist steering. Thanks.

Ah ha! When I test drove a TL I thought the same. Granted, I currently drive a BMW 325i and I've gotten used to the steering but I remember the 'loose' feel of the TL.

I'm am quite certain the TL's steering is of the non-variable assist type from what I've read. HP tires or lower tire pressure (5AT) will give stiffer feel. You get used to the cars responses it in a hurry, so do not let it shade your decision. It is an extremely capable car with very good road feedback.

The road response is reasonable at normal speed, but take it above 80-90MPH, and the car becomes difficult to manage.
