Declining resale value making TL-S very affordable.
Wanted to get your thoughts on the current resale value of the TL-S. Now that the majority of 07-08 TL-S leases are finished and getting up there in age, I've noticed you can get one with decent mileage for under the $20K mark. What are your thoughts on what the price will be at the end of 2011? under $17.5K/15K?Appreciate your input.

yea i was in the market for the base model tl to buy for my g/f. and after some searching i found a 07 type s for 20 grand with like 30k on the odometer. i thought they were usually around 25-28k used. lol probably next year u can get a evo 9 mr for 17k

That's true but you also need to consider the location. For instance you will have to difficult time to find a type S that cheap in chicago.

Its a tough call here as it can go either way. To be honest I was actually surprised to see how high some Type S's are priced still. Sure I have seen some with average miles for around 20, but if you want a super clean low mileage example I have seen some 08's in the Chicago area for near 30!!!!
Not to dis any younger people here but it does kind of suck when you see teenage boys ricing out nice cars like a Type S. Thats when you know its time to move on lol. I do however have full respect for someone who works and pays for their own car and actually takes care of it and doesnt do stupid shit to it :-).

On topic, the TLs seem to hold their value extremely well. I had a friend who was amazed at what used TLs were still going for. Take a look at the typical Beemer at the same age and look at the depreciation. I guess it's good for those looking to sell and not so good for those looking to buy.

I lucked into a high milage (112,000) 2007 TL-S 6MT for $15,500 last month. Once I added in the cost of flying from Idaho to Boston and driving back it was more like $16,200 but I'm still really happy with it. High miles on newer Honda/Toyota/Nissan products don't really scare me. I take care of my stuff and have never been able to kill anything.

In my area (SF Bay Are), they want nearly 30k for a 2008 CPO Type-S. I found one in LA (2008, lease return with under 30k miles) and they laughed @ me when I offered 27.5 OTD. I'm hoping that once the 2012 TL is released (heard March/April) that they'll be more wiggle room on 2007/2008 Type-s'.

I'm sure I annoyed plenty of folks back in my teens and 20's. Doesn't mean I enjoy the payback now though......

lol shit happens...
car values will continue to drop as the model gets older and that doesnt mean a young person shouldnt be able to buy the car...
if you can afford a car then you buy it maturity has no part in it
only problem I have with the "younger" crowd buying this car is when they are putting purple tow hooks on it and honda logos over the car when its an acura.
i also click on these threads and see the "older" crowd talking about young people buying the car but as long as ur tastefully modding the car what difference does age make?

Anyways the value is going down fast for the base models too. I got my 08 TL appraised at carmax for 20K.

As an example, there was a CPO '08 WDP TL-S in Chicago back in October with only 5,700 miles and an asking price of $33,995. Only thing that stopped me from buying it at that exorbitant price was because of the automatic transmission. I bet that car was beyond clean though.
Second example on the flip side, '08 WDP TL-S 6MT w/42k miles in SoCal with a starting asking price of $26k. More than a few days after the initial listing, the price was reduced to $24k. The car had body work done to the fender which the owner grudgingly disclosed after initially saying he "didn't know". Car ended up selling for $22k a few weeks later.
I could probably give a few more examples of cars that I looked at over the last few months and give a breakdown of why they were priced as such based on their condition but I think it's pretty safe to say, you get what you pay for unless it's a private party distress sale.

I have NO idea what some of you guys are talking about
TL becoming affordable is a bad thing? Just look at some of the gems below:

im pretty sure the majority of ricers cant afford a good condition TL....yet. ricers buy old civics for < $5k, whereas a TL is still going for at least $14k for a good condition one.

like i said, the "majority" of them cant afford it. besides, the pictures he showed isnt anywhere near as bad as some of the mods i've seen on ricers in socal. for example, at least the KBP tl-s had a color matched wing instead of a primered or carbon fiber look that cheap civics have.

You can bet that the issues with these cars over 200K will be different than the ones that we have today.

The same thing happened to the older Lexus's like the IS300 too, it's not isolated to Acura...The prices dropped into the mid teens and you had younger guys picking them up. The same thing was true for WRX and then STis. It's not a big deal really, I'm not concerned with what other people do to their cars. I've seen Corvettes, BMWs and Mercs that are riced or ghetto'd out too.

That wasn't a salvage title? What shape is the car in?

And for the pictures above it really blows my mind that there are people that do stuff like that to cars. I understand we all have our own opinion of what looks "cool" or what is "bad ass", but I cant for the life of me sit there and say wow that spoiler looks great on that TL. I just dont understand wtf that person could be thinking for their mind to make them think that those wings (or any other retarded mods like that) look good.

yea, 17.5k OTD, bought it from a private seller here on acurazine. it had 74950 miles when i bought it, some consider that high, some dont. to me, mileage and condition considered, its a good deal. btw, mechanically, its perfect, no body work at all, every body panel has a VIN sticker and has no signs of repainting or damage. wheels had no curb rash at all. engine runs smooth and strong. carfax and autocheck come back very clean. car was very well taken care of.

Just bought an 07 Type S with 23k miles for $24,000. Was a little more expensive than some others, but they all had 50k+ so decided to pay a little more for a newer car. But I did see a few of them under 20k.

There is a local 2008 Type S 6sp manual with 62K miles thats acura CPO at Acura in Orland Park near Chicago for 21.9. Seems like a pretty good deal if the car checks out clean. What exactly does CPO add? any additional warranty?

whats your point? you're still a young guy with a car that was once 40K, make sense for an older crowd wanting to switch to newer cars once they see 3Gs TLs being driven by teenagers .... heck even I thought about switching a year ago when I started to see numerous guys my age in base tls (and I was already in a Type S)... Now its common for me to see Type-S' being driven by guys my age...the funny thing is in Canada a new TL Type S would have cost close to like $56K back in the day, I wonder which "kids" could have afforded it back then....
