Deck Lid Spoiler Question?
I just purchased a deck lid spoiler on Ebay from Trimking. I have heard the paint is excellent but I am now having second thoughts that it is held on by 3M tape. I am not sure how this is going to hold up? I might have to send it back unless I hear anything good about it. I really didn't feel like dropping $595 for the dealer installed one. Any help or insight is appreciated.

I think the 3m tape is supposed to be uber-strong.... Several people on here have ordered from Trim King if my memory is right and I can not seem to remember anyone having a bad experience. Do a search for trimking and you should find some threads....

One on the right for me
^-I believe so. I dont know about the TL's but the M3's factory spoiler is tape. The 3m is some of the strongest double sided stuff out there

Lip Spoiler
as others have indicated-- mine has been on for over two years and not one sign of a problem. All the emblems on the back of the car are also held on with "tape".
No worries here.

I really dont know why they didnt mount the spoiler with the screws towards the edges as opsed to in the middles of the trunk area.......but I think the 3M tape is more than enough...............it might be a problem in real hot areas (Arizona, California, Florida) due to all that sun and heat causing the adhesive to come lose, but other than that I dont see why it wouldnt work.
I will be getting one soon

I installed mine 3 weeks ago from TrimKing. The paint was a perfect match.
I was also worried about it flying off. Well put it this way, once you remove the wax and place the spoiler on the trunk, it is not comming off.
My friend and I tried to take it off to move it just a hair to the left. It did not move and trust me your not getting it off.

I have the OEM lip spoiler and as another poster mentioned, it uses bolts plus tape. and I'm glad my is bolted cause the tape is lifting on one side. Personally seeing this I wouldn't trust only tape unless you prep the surface REALLY well.

The tape the OEM spoiler uses is not the same...........and you can remove it with some heat...........even if you think you cant.
I used that heavy duty 3M tape to hold my rear lip and front lip spoilers on my integra........if they can hold that, which is heavier, and are getting pulled down by gravity, than I dont see why it would be a problem for a lip spoiler, which has no gravity pull on it, its rested on the trunk...........if you keep an eye out on the spoiler, and fix the problem at first glance of it lifting, I dont see any reason for anyone to worry about it flying off.
When installing it, apply pressure, for a few minutes, to let the glue bind. And if you do remove it, dont reuse the same 3M strip, you need to undo the strip from the lip spoiler and get new strips, no need for a whole new lip spoiler.

The stuff they use on the after market spoiler is the same stuff they used on my radar detector mount...it's not moving! It is almost like a glue. The Acura kit (what I have on mine) is different, not as strong (I've had no probs yet).

I just bought a rear deck lip spoiler from the same guy about 3 weeks ago. It works like steel; the 3M will suffice the job. I have pics but do not know how to post them. So send me an email to nhousepro@msn.com, and I will email you pics. Before you install do a good prep job and you will have no problem.

The OEM lip also has a different spring for opening the thunk to allow for the extra weight of the lip. You can get along without the spring but you need to be aware that it does not stay up quite as well and needs to be pushed a little to go all the way up. The aftermarket lip may be lighter that the OEM so the problem may be less of an issue.

I bought an OEM lip and it came with a spring. With the lip & new spring installed, it pops the trunk an additional 6" higher than the stock spring. Also, I added some 3M tape before I mounted the lip. Hopefully, that'll keep it in place.
