i would reccomend the civic for a young driver, great all around car, reliable, cheap/easy to fix, and 4cyl MPG!,my 2 cents... also another member mentioned a TSX. you might look into one of those. my local dealership uses them as loaners, great car and fun to drive imo.

 

Rather than having us tell you what we would prefer, why dont you determine what all of her priorities are and list them here so we can better advise.

 

Maybe that's becasue you have a type-s with Brembos. I replaced my front pads about a month ago. Cost me $40 for the pads, and 20min of my time. I used the same brand of pads on my 98 Accord, and they cost me the same amount.

But yeah if your one of those people that can't do maintenance on your car yourself, your going to pay out the ass for service no matter where you go.

 

Regardless of what car you have, you need to maintain it, simple.. Most girls AND guys do not give two sh*ts about their cars..as long as they are nice and clean.... very few understand the mechanics part... but it's ok...

Look at the purchase as a financial interest...TL will yield more in return. Regardless of what she drives you'll need new bumpers and wheels, eventually...I guarantee it.

And IHC, don't be dissing on the Pontiac Aztec! This amazing car has started a whole new concept to the phrase: 'what da f*ck".
I watch the Breaking Bad show..and season 3 just ended, I still say WTF in every episode when the main character drives a seriously fugly poop green Aztec....ugliest shit ever to be put on wheels. Sorry mods, I can't make it pretty and stick..you can cover it flowers, spray some cologne on it, it is still crapola lol

 

Lower mileage, has a Navi, and only ~$2K more.... ya... no brainer. TL all the way. It has more room in the back seat too, if you move the seats forward you get quite a bit of room to mess around in the back.

 

she can do better than $14850 on an 07 civic, even with the ex trim level, prob find one with fewer miles also.

although most people say the tl would be better for the 19 year old girl, i think otherwise... like others have said i doubt she will take care of the tl. and a civic would be nice for her i see it as a chick car anyway. the tl would be a great pic for any man but the civic probably fits her life style a little bit better. and no offense but she's a girl shell probably scratch and dent/ding it up any way why not get a civic

I would also suggest looking at a used TSX as a nice compromise between the smaller size of the Civic and the luxury features of the TL.

That's what I did- for the price of a brand new Civic EX, I was able to get into a certified pre-owned '07 TSX. Well worth the jump, in my opinion. And yes, I did test drive a '10 Civic, too.

The TL just seemed a bit large for what I wanted (single 18 year old male) and the TSX was more affordable.

Yes, gasoline, insurance, and potentially maintenance (if you stick to the Acura dealer) will cost more, but I find it totally worth it to get the driving experience in the TSX.

The insurance was not that big of a jump as many might think, since the TSX is used while the Civic would be new. Insurance for me runs about $725 for 6 months of liability, collision, and comprehensive, whereas I was previously insured with a 2002 Odyssey that cost $433 for 6 months of the same coverage. If I switched to my mom's 2008 Nissan Altima, insurance would run about the same for 6 months of coverage, and back when I started out on a 1999 Civic, it cost $985 for 6 months. On the 2008 Volvo S40 I initially wanted to buy, insurance would have cost $880 for 6 months

So to make a long story short, I think the TL is the better value here. However, if your friend prefers the Civic, by all means, buy the Civic (but try to find a better deal; that seems pricey even for a used Civic). Life is too short not to drive something you enjoy, even if what you don't enjoy is an amazing bargain.

 

Correction: My insurance on the 2002 Odyssey almost hit $600 for 6 months of 'full' coverage. The $433 figure is for liability only, which we dropped that car to in May.
