Dealer thinks alarm activation is due to:

The remote starter that was installed when I bought the car new in 2007. They are thinking the starter system is somehow causing the alarm to go off, maybe in the wiring or tripping the alarm somehow, remember when you press that starter button it locks all the car doors then starts. Its now disconnected & I'll take the car back & see what happens, if the alarm doesn't act up again that means its the starter & I need a new remote starter which is $500 installed.

In my 2004 TL, I had once where the alarm would kick off every few hours. That was after driving thru a huge rain storm getting home. After whatever dried out, it hasn't done that since.

Good luck.

Glad to hear the progress of finding the issue but you could have just continue your original thread for future reference for others may use.

If it is it's just a typical POS self starter system, A dealer will install & sell whatever options on a vehicle to make BIGGER profits, they will do no research to check the quality, basically it's whatever they can get from an outside supplier, install & make money on. In my case the ex-tended warranty expired so this is costing me. Typical crap that lasts a few years & breaks.

90% of the time a dealer will ALWAYS blame aftermarket equipment as being the problem. However, believe it or not I wouldn't be surprised if it was the problem though in this case. Some remote start systems are complicated installations and a lot of installers don't know wtf they are doing. When installing those systems they do have to tie into your door locks and alarm activate/deactivate to work properly. It also has to bypass your ignition security system as well. Like you said the first step here would be to remove or disable the remote start and see if the problem persists or not.

Sounds to me like you don't need a new remote start. What's happenning (or not) is that the remote start's pulse-before-start or factory-disarm is not triggering the factory alarm disarm circuit. Typically any pulse-before-start to the unlock wire or disarm wire (white at the driver's door switch) should take care of the issue.

If you still can, i'd take it back to the remote start shop and tell them the factory alarm is not disarming before start.

Yup, something went bad with it. It's disabled now, I'm going to pick it up now & see what happens in the next few weeks, if it doesn't happen again then I'll know it was the starter system. The dealer doesn't use this system or installer anymore, they use a different one now and a new one is about $550 installed. I might just forget it, but it is nice to have, especially on a cold day.

Well if you bought the car and remote starter from the dealer, regardless of who they used they should still take care of you. Providing you're remote starter is still under warranty. They can't sell you something then go "oh, they're not around anymore so you're screwed, but thanks for the money up front!"

Out of warranty, Car has 102,000 miles and ex-tended warranty just expired. But they were very fair with me on the labor, only $58. They said the computers for the starter systems eventually start to go bad & trips the alarm, but could also be a something broken. The alarm contractor gets $150 just to come out & diagnose but doesn't include cost of parts etc. A new system installed is about $550.Right now its disabled so it'll be a wait & see what happens situation, right now my neighbors hate me.
