Dealer messed my front bumper up.

I was washing my car yesterday when I decided to take my front license plate off and take a look at the car without it. Well unfortunately it seems they really did a number on the front of the bumper with the license plate. First off, the bracket they used was overtightened and left an indent in the shape of the bracket, a very noticable one too. Second, and this one really pissed me off, the screws they used were not only too long, but looked like they were WOOD screws with sharp points. Needless to say, when the drilled the top part of the license into the bracket, they drilled through the bracket and through the bumper. Overall, the front is badly mishapened and deformed behind the license.

What do you guys think I should do? I'm bringing the car in for service on Monday (ECU flash or something). Should I show it to them then, or call ahead about it?

Just so you understand, the bumper has those two holes that can be plugged. The bracket is screwed into those two holes, so the top is not attached to the bumper (as to not damage the bumper). However, the license is screwed in on all 4 corners of the bracket, and the top 2 screws went through. Hopefully that paints a better picture.

Honestly I guess its not a huge deal, but the fact is I bought a brand new car and want everything the way it should be, no dents and holes because they can get away with it. When I sell my car, the buyer may not want a license on the front. Then what do I do?

Thanks for the help.

Unnecessary holes are a bad thing! I would definately complain and see what they offer to do. They might be able to fill and touch up paint. It might not look perfect, but I don't think it would be worth the trouble to have the whole bumper painted, as that would likely end up not nearly as good as the factory paint.

I was thinking more along the lines of a new bumper. Like I said, they dented it up and drilled right through it.

Complain and ask for a replacement bumper. Point of fact is they intentionally damaged your bumper. If you can't get them to make it right then take it to ACS. Let us know what happens.

Yeah, I know, but that doesn't give them a right to mess my bumper up. If I wanted to not wear the front plate, now I can't, and if I sell the car to someone else who wants to, now they can't.

if you're keeping your front plate on.. i say don't bother, no one will see it anyway. If you're planning to take it off, just get some plugs. I think H and A has them for the S2000, don't know if they have them for other cars too.

Did you not read my original post? The bracket squared the front of the bumper off and they drilled holes into it!

damand they replace the bumper. As far as their concerned your planning on moving to a state that doesn't require a front plate such as Michigan.

Wtf???

The license plate bracket kit comes with all the correct hardware for mounting that thing. I've had mine off and my dealer installed it correctly. Two bolts to hold on the bracket and 4 10mm plated screws to hold on the license plate.

Why the heck would they be using the wrong hardware to mount the thing or for that matter getting "creative" with mounting the bracket when everything is provided??

That would definitely piss me off.

The only thing that did annoy me was that they didn't put the plugs they took out in the glove compartment. If I ever moved to a state that didn't require a front plate I'd want to take the bracket off and put the plugs back in.

I know plugs are easy to get though. If you just go to the dealer and tell them you want them (they usually throw them out I hear) they'll save the next set from the next car.
