Dealer Lied! Why am I surprised?

So around Mar 5th I went to my local dealer and test drove the TL(loved it before I drove it, couldn't get enough after I drove it)!
It turns out that I like a rare car, 6MT, camel int, anthracite with navi so the salesman had me at the office for about 4 hours while he called/surfed to find that combination for me. No luck, he gave me the option of leaving a deposit and the car would be ordered and come in about 4-5 weeks time. I figured that would be rough but I would stick it out. 3 weeks in I went to the dealer since the salesman didn't return my call. At that point I heard that it would be another 6 weeks for the car to come in!! I was upset but what could I do, during this period I have been passing the time by calling other dealers in the state -NJ and I no one has the car.

Yesterday I called (since one dealer was able to tell me exactly when a particular car was rolling off the assembly destined for his dealership and the dates were after mine would be done) I now find out that my order was not placed but it would be placed next week. Apparently the day I came in back in march was past some kind of cut off! Shouldn't I have been told that?!
Shouldn't they have not taken my money until it was time to order th #$$@ car!!! Their excuse was that they have been looking around for the car, even though when I left the dealership in Mar I was given the warm and fuzzy feeling that my car was ordered!
:banghead:
This from a dealership who prides themselves as being number2 in the state or nation forgot which one..probably state of NJ and if anyone can get me the car it would be them. p.s.#1 would have been too far away.
I might have to !gasp! get a different selection they have pletty of silver non navi Either case Monday I will be getting my money an going to another dealer and get something from the lot -or- fall for another's lies I really want my selection!

The dealer has "Windows" of allocation in which they can add your order. This window is usually a month or two after you give them your deposit. This doesn't work like if you ordered a Ford and they placed an order for your car directly with the factory and you get it in 3 weeks. I put a deposit down on my Red MT-6 navi on the first week of October and the order didn't officially go in until atleast early December. I didn't get my car until the first week of February. If you want a car fast, the best suggestion is compromise and find something on the lot - there is a lot more to pick from now that 5 months ago.

which dealership did you go to? from what i recall, the cutoff for the orders is the 20th of each month(i might be wrong). i ordered mine from ryans open road acura and mine is coming in next week. nbp/qtz/5at/navi ....my salesman told me that only the navis were hard to find, and said that if i didnt want the navi, i could get whatever color combo i wanted.

I placed my deposit last Saturday, and they said the car would be here as late as May 10th, and they gave me potential build dates before I walked out. They gave me 2 weeks it could be built depending on if they could get the build order placed.

Should I expect it to be longer than 5/10? They seemed pretty certain it would be there next month.

The dealer is Ryans on rt18.
vothsc:
If I had that info then I wouldn't have had my heart set on driving the car in april. What I forgot to mention was when I called yesterday they told me that the car wont be here until the june/july time frame. It is not that I wanted a "fast car" but I was given incorrect information and I was never given any follow up information!

drsprite:
I suggest you follow up with your dealer. I guess the more they have to pull up your file the less likely they will lose you in the shuffle.

It is partially a matter of timing. I placed my order in late Feb. and they ordered the car the following Monday. I got the car yesterday. Had I ordered a week later, I would have had to wait another month.

Try Montclair Acura. They don't have a 6M, but the sale guy I went through seemed straight forward. Ask for Clinton.

This was my first order from an "import" car company and they do things differently. Detroit just sends your order in and they build you car, with Acura you get a slot in their monthy allocation. This wasn't told to me either - I gleened it from this board and a Montgomeryville salesman that i talked to while giving a friend a lift to buy a TSX. I got mine at Lehigh Valley Acura. Since it was the middle of Winter, I didn't care that I had to wait but would have appreciated a firm date.

Ryans Acura

Boy don't like hearing this about Open Road. That's where I'm suppose to be getting my car. I've had a hard time with them. I have had a bad feeling about the whole deal and won't feel better until my car is in. I've been dealing with Ashok, who took my order. Also have been in touch with Mgr., Andrew, and also now Asim since Ashok is now away for 2 wks. Left deposit in end of Feb. was assured he would find one in 3 days, then a week, then 3 wks, then was told found another dealer had one on order and was doing a swap. Was given a build date of 3/27-3/31. Received a call from Ashok on 3/31 with the VIN# and a delivery date of 4/6-4/7. Called 4/7 - talked to Asim cause Ashok was away. Asim knew nothing about my car. Ashok never told him like he was suppose to. Talked later in day. He had a delivery date of 4/8. In the meantime left message with mgr. asking what was going on since Ashok never informed Asim like he told me he would.
Anyway, called again on 4/9. Asim was off work and Andrew called in sick. Now talked to a Sumit who knew about my car. No, did not arrive 4/8. Would call when it did. I again called 4/10 and talked to Andrew. Yes, he has a delivery date of 4/8 but car not in yet. Had two trailers arrive that day without my car. Hopes it will be delivered Monday, 4/12. Will call me around noon. (All of this is a condensed version of my dealings there.)

This whole thing has made me paranoid. Won't feel good til car comes in.... and hope everything is alright with it.

A question I have to everyone is - is this normal for a car to be late, or did they give me a delivery date that is not accurate just to appease me that my car would be in soon?

Cliff, Madalay - who have you been dealing with at Ryan's?

We own two Honda Civics EX, a 2001' and a 2003' The 2001' I left a $100.00 on a credit card by phone. When I picked up the car, the salesperson ripped
up the credit card draft and I paid for the car by check. The 2003', I just told her by phone what I wanted. ( left no deposit ) Again, when the car was ready to be picked up. I paid by check for the car.

How much of a reasonable deposit should be left when ordering a TL ?

Thank you,
Cypwood

My salesman is Fred. He is laid back and comfortable with the amount of car that he has sold. Next dealship I'm going straight to the Mgr and find out who is eager but lagging in sales. I'm sure he will call me every week and update me.
In my dealings with Ryans I have spoken with Fred, Andrew, Brian and a person claiming to be their mgr.

Beware of Ryan's Open Road (Route 18, East Brunswick)

I purchased my 2004 TL back in February and Ryan's Open Road has to be one of the worst auto dealerships in the state!! First they tried pushing a 5AT non-navi TL on me because they had a bunch in the lot. I finally had them find a 6MT Navi black on black. This car after placing a deposit disappeared mysteriously. They found another car that had 17 miles on it. They gave me the VIN and everything. I received a phone call from the dealership and they informed me that this car actually had 118 miles on it. They stated if this was no good they would find a car with less miles. Because of the run around I said to find a different car. I went to the dealership to check out the car three days later. They said they tracked one down with 43 miles on it. During the inspection I took a look at the miles. It had 118 miles! So the whole story they fed be was aline of BS.

To make a long story short, they had to put the A-Spec body kit on the car so it took a few more days for delivery. On delivery day my sales associated stated that they had no time to wash the car and give me a car with a quarter tank of gas. They would not fill the tank unless I drove with a salesman to a gas station 5 miles away, return the salesman with a receipt, and sign a form.

All support for the car in reference to recalls and the tire issue were met with an absolute poor attitude.

Hmm.... I had to put $1,000 down.

However, it was refundable at any time. Deposit down 3/2/04. Car arrived 3/18/04.

Combo was popular though (except for Navi part.) SSM/Ebony/Navi/5AT

Ummm - we were told that Andrew is a Manager. Let us know how you make out with getting back your deposit. By the way - what was the cost for the car?

Keep seeing more and more bad reports on Ryans. Anybody got anything good to say about them???

I got my '04 TL from Ryans in the begining of March. I had some trouble with them in general, but went with them becuz they gave me a really good deal. I bought my car through Ashok as well. I really think he lacks knowledge and just makes thing up as questions are asked. Seemed like i knew more about the car than he did! Everything about the dealership sucks so far, the only reason I got from them is because of the price they gave me. At the end that always is the most important part!

Did you get a car off the lot, or one ordered or swapped?

I got my car off the lot. I havent gone in for any service so far. Just very frustrating getting my car in general. Lot of phone calls back and forth. I originally had put all paper work in my name and got a 2.9% apr which was a 3 day promo. Than I got some quotes from my insurance company and they gave me some ridiculous prices cuz I am under 25 with an accident to my name. so i than decided to change it and put it under my mothers name and save more than 50% on insurance. They originally told me nothing is going to change, and the deal will remain the same since im only changing the name. I go to deal, change all the info. go home, get a call right away from Ashok. He's like, we can't give you the 2.9 anymore, since that deal is over....I was like, but I had signed and left a $500 deposit before the promo ended!! He said all paper work has to be done again since I had changed the name. So I then ended up with the 3.74% apr under my mothers name. So, about 4-6 days later, I go to pick up the car. I sit down to sign all paper work, and than the manager tells me that all the info was never changed in ther computers and I would have to wait there until they did so. I literally was at the dealer for more than 2 hours waiting to drive away with the car. It was just a very frustrating procedure in just getting the car....boy I dont want to know how the service part is going to be!! :banghead:

Had the same crap with my '02 from Springfield Acura. Kept changing the date, false promises of delivery etc. It finally came in - no probs, but I know the feeling you are feeling. My '04 was actually picked up from Ryan's I think. I did not buy there, but that is where my dealer found it I guess.

Ran into same problem. Offered 2.9% and then deal ended before deal was closed. I refused to take higher APR though.

In the end, dealer lowered the final sale price of the car to match what I would have gotten with the originally agreed upon sale price with 2.9% APR. Bascially, ended up getting another $800 bucks knocked off (or something like that.)

That's a question I have - if you're not happy at your dealer's service, what about taking it to another dealer for service????
It's been years since I had a new car. I use to take it to the dealer for service the first 2 years but then was unhappy with something they did and took it to another dealer with no problem.

I'm hoping that's the case and I will get my car eventually. I have a build date and a VIN. I read somewhere that the normal delivery after being built is something like 10 days??

Ryan

Just talked to Mgr. at Ryan's Open Road. Car now has delivery date of 4/13 (tomorrow). He says it's located in Richfield, NJ and can't see why it won't come in tomorrow. Will call me tomorrow around noon.

I live within blocks of Ryan's Open Road Acura on Route 18 in Spotswood and will not buy my cars there. I bought my 04 an 97 and Precision Acura in Lawrenceville and my 02 at Acura of Ocean. I been in there and tried to make a deal with them but always seem to get a big line of BS. And I always get better prices else where. I know 2 of the salesman that worked there, they left and went of Bridgewater Acura because of the BS going on over there.

I would stay away from that dealership.

The only reason I went with them is because first I got a good price and had been assured (now know BS) would locate car in 3 days. I had checked with dealers all over - no one had what I wanted and couldn't match price.

Thank you,

They asked me for $1,000. I laughed and gave them $500 on my credit card so I could reverse the charge if they pulled anything funny.

She asked me "Why $500?"

I said, "Because it's my money and that's all I'm going to give you." :thefinger End of story.

They try to get as much as possible to make sure they have taken you out of the market place. If it's only $100 and you find a $500 better deal, you're history.

open road

I'm also getting the run-around from open road. About 3 weeks ago the salesman, Mark, told me he could get me anthracite/ebony/navi/6mt within a week. Now I'm told he'll have to order the car (I think on the 15th) and I "should" have it by early May. What do you guys think? At first, I thought the salesman was a pretty honest guy, but now I don't know.

I went to open road because I didn't like the salesman or the manager over at acura of ocean. I asked them 3 times to give me their best price as I would be shopping around. They kept telling me to get the best price and come back to them. open road gave me the best price and i decided to purchase there. After I put a deposit down at open road, the ocean salesman stopped calling me- how does he know?

By the way, I got a call from my salesman at open road on Sat. He had a black/black/navi/6mt on the lot that a deal had fallen through on. I couldn't get there until late, and the car was sold by 4pm. I think if I had made it down there, I would have gone with that combo.

Exclamation Big dealers=big inventories=big alotments

Just a word of advice based on my buying experience:

In metro areas, there are big volume dealers like mine: Rick Case Acura (world's largest). Right now, they have about 60 TLs in stock in all colors and combinations except for 6MT NAVIs with HPT. Usually, they have a few of those if you're flexible on color.

I claimed an ordered car for stock: a Black 5AT NAVI w/camel which was my first choice although they attemped to move me into an Anthracite because they had two in stock. They said they couldn't do my deal on an ordered car. I dug my heels in and said "I know what I want and I'm not going to compromise." They said, "O.K." and my car was in in about 10 days.

They messed up by detailing that car after I told them I didn't want them to touch it; that I would detail it myself. I refused that car because they put fine scratches on the hood when they washed/polished it. Then, they found another car another dealer had ordered and which was sold already. They switched that buyer to my car and me to his car. My new one is being made today and it will be in in about 10 days or so.

So, check the dealer's inventory through the www.acura.com website. Choose build a TL, then locate a dealer, then check the dealer's inventory. Big cities and big dealers have an advantage. They also give pretty good deals.

PM me for the name/px of a recommended dealer/salesperson in Florida.

Ryan

Well finally got my car. Got a call on Thursday and picked it up in the afternoon.

Habbib handled the deal since my orig. salesman is away. He was real nice and curtious. Car was washed and full tank of gas.

Got call 2 days later from him to make sure everything was alright, if I had any questions, etc.

Now will have to see how service dept. is.

Now that I got my car, I feel a little bit more "charitable" toward them. If the salesman had been more upfront with me in the beginning as far as being more realistic in when he'd be able to get me a car, I wouldn't of been pissed with the waiting, phone calls, etc.

What's the latest? did you go to another dealer or just waiting for June/July delivery?

Tell me exactly what car you want and the price you are paying. My dealer in Florida has a big inventory. I'll see if he can meet your price objective AND pay for your ticket to Florida.

Since my car did not get ordered I told the salesman that I have been dealing with to find me a camel/nav/6MT combo I will decide after that. He called last week Monday(when I was supposed to go over and get my money back) and told me that he found a deep green pearl with everything that I wanted so I told him to get it from Maryland! I started to check with other dealers to find out their inventory just in case. I also left town and came back today and got a call saying that the car is in. I went to check it out before it was prepped and I decided to take it...wasn't my 1st choice but it is still a TL
I pick it up tomorrow.
