Dead battery - or not!?!

My TL has been completely trouble-free in 24,000 miles. Knock on head (wood). My wife did manage to hose my EL42 Bridgestone driving it once or twice, but that ended well when I replaced all 4 with Pirelli Pzero Nero's. See that post in Tires.

Anyway, the opther day while doing a check underhood, I found that the green cell indicator light on the OE battery was not glowing. Voltage measured well. Specific gravity and load tests were OK. And it cranked the car fine. A lesser (less anal) man might have left well enough alone, but no, not the Rage Man - But I am a staunch advocate of not driving around with a battery starting to fail (see my post on that topic - short version is that it strains the alternator), so I did some research, and found that Wal-Mart had a better battery (higher CCA) so I was off with the old battery to Wally World.

Here's the weird part (queue up the Twilight Zone music) - as I am humping the batt into a cart (iyt was 100+ degrees out, and I am old), I thought I saw a green flash out of the corner of my eye. Huhh!!??? So I am pushing the cart, and I see it again. Huhh huhhh???!!! Screeech - I come to a halt, no ABS. I jiggle the battery around, and find that the "glowing indicator" in the afflicted cell has come loose, and is floating like one of those Fortune 8-Balls!!! So when I checked it while it was motionless in ther car originally, it showed dead.

In fact, the battery was fine! But since I had come this far, did not want the hassle of going to Acura for a warranty adjustment, I just went ahead andf bought the Wal-Mart battery (besides, it had a hot yellow case, and I liek some color under the hood). No indicator cell light to get loose either.

Wow...you sir, take the an ounce of prevention saying to a whole new level! Knowing everything was ship shape and then confirming the green thing was just not showing correctly would have made me walk right back into Walmart to return the yellow one!

The green indicator only gives the status of that ONE cell... Not very reliable in my opinion.

Wanna know the funny thing...I just noticed that now that you posted this response! This came up as a "find new posts" search! Ha ha...at this point I'm sure the new battery would have been needed anyway!
