Every time I clean the inside of my TL, it seems that in just a day or two, I notice small white dandruff like flakes on the dash. I mentioned this to the service advisor yesterday while I was in for an oil change. She said I was the 2nd TL owner to mention this. They replaced the cabin filter thinking that it may be a filter problem.

Anyone else notice this?

 

same thing here, is it most noticeable right above the gauges? it doesn't bother me much though, since dashboards get dusty and you'll always have to clean them. i just try to wipe it off but if its a cabin filter (which i didnt even know a car had) i think i'll have mine checked out too

 

I've had my car for about 5 months now and no dust or "dandruff" on the dash. Do you guys drive quite a bit on dusty roads?

That Parchment interior IS the exact color of dandruff. And you wonder where the flakes are coming from?

Hacksaw, with all this talk about how to clean your TL's interior, maybe its time to use a solution of Head & Shoulders and water!

 

someone sent me the overpriced Swiffer duster - it works wonders with the dust and is compact enough to be stored on the driver's side storage. Do note that the dust will keep settling even after you clean but it's a big diff.

 

I concur with the Swiffer as I use a sheet once a week in my car and run over the dash, door panels, console, etc... It picks up the dust and lint and leaves almost nothing behind.

 

Mine has dandruff too, strange. The "flakes" aren't dust, I'll take a closer look at them when they show up again, it takes awhile for build up.

I was told by the Acura dealer that the "dust" on the dash board is actually fading. The material is fading from the sun exposure. Said they don't have a fix yet. Mine looks like shit!

 

I have 2004 Black on Camel, Auto. 26000 miles

My dashboard looks like it's very dusty, but there is nothing to wipe off.

I talked to the dealer, and he said it was a defect. Turns out sunlight is making the black dashboard fade and look like it is dusty. Said no fix is currently available. Anyone else heard this?

My dash looks really bad. Dealer said the dashes in hotter climates are even worse.

 

They all look like that after a week or so. Just wipe with a damp chamois at it will look like new. Occasional Vinylex is good too. Maybe twice a year.

 

Mine looks dusty, but there isn't any dust. My car is only 2 months old and sits in my garage for most of the week, so sun is not an issue. I'll try the wet chamois and the occasional vinylex.

 

I noticed this too. I used Vinylex and it looked great...then it started to fade again. More Vinylex....Guess I'll be using it often...

 

Will the vinylex hurt the dash if we use it frequently?

 

303 Aerospace Protectant and cleaner is your answer. It restores the dash to its original condition. No glossy finfish. Try it and you'd love it.

 

I agree. 303 Protectant is one of the best I've seen. Any you don't get any of that Armor-All glossy crap look.

 

No it will not hurt. Vinylex works great. Never leaves a shine...just a like new matte finish. After using it, the damp chamois is all you will need. It is the best product.

 

303 is the way to go. I won't leave a shiny finish and it actually repels dust. Some of the products sold for protecting vinyl actually make the problem worse...thus you have to keep using the product more and more. It's kinda like the dashboard gets "addicted" to the stuff. Use 303 Aerospace protectant and your problem will vanish like magic. I don't know what's in that stuff, but it works.

Concering the "Dandruff" on the dash.

It just might be litttle flakes of you settling on the dash.

During the winter months (actually anytime of the year), you are bound to see this "dust" accumulate around the dash.

Dry skin combined with the normal chaffing process associated with steering, operating the vehicles various systems will most likely cause little flakes of skin to become airborne and then resettle in the cabin of the car. Take note that beards and mustaches are also suspect in "Dash Dandruff" . Just my hopefully comical two cents worth.

Another vote for 303. I bought it based on recommendations from other Acurazine members and it is absolutely fantastic. Makes the dash (and other plastic/vinyl surfaces) look like new and without the icky grease/shine of other inferior products.

 

303 is everthing folks on the forum describe. Try it, you won't be dissapointed. Perhaps more important than the appearance, it is a UV blocker, which in theory should prolong the life of the dash.

 

TL 42 nails it. I have a full beard & have noticed it in my TL, also occured in my old Integra. I had a customer with a bad skin condition years ago that had an inch of fine powder on his dash

I'm going to bring this up at work about the 303 product.
We've replaced around 4 dashes already, I've replaced one so far.....not a fun job especially on a new car. Who knows what rattles will pop up after your done or any other problems that go with replacing a dash.

Has anyone used 303 and Vinylex and have any comments for comparison of these products. I used ArmorAll for years on previous cars, but based on various comments am planning on one of these for the TL. Pros/Cons?

If the issue of the dandruff being the actual dashboard flaking I suppose adding a front windshield shade along with using 303 protect would probably be a good start on fighting the dandruff.
