Dash looks bad

I just picked up my new silver TL Navi with black interior. I noticed that the dash cover above the glove box looks bad. It looks like it has depressions in it. Three near the window and one in the middle. AZlso dull in spots . I though maybe a little protectant might improve it but no luck. You folks have any suggestions. I hate to get the dash cover relplaced, but don't know what else can be done???

Thanks

i got an 04 same color combo as you and have a similar dash. but i've had mine for a year now. i've tried meguiars and it didn't help much. do not use armor all though unless you like your dash shiny. my dash seems to look powdery and turning a lighter color. what else we can do w/ our dash. i haven't seen the dash cover, is it made for the TL or is it generic? can you share the link?

congrats on your new baby and welcome to the forum

I have heard on this board that those marks are where the air bag is located. Try some 303 aerospace protectant. It will help with the dull spots. I had the same problem and the only thing that worked was 303

I have the same problem above the glove box (below the silver trim) and above that on the bottom edge of the passenger air bag. 303 just protects it, i heard some dude took it to the dealer and ended up replacing the entire dash.. which resulted w/ some rattles, and thats that last thing i would want to hear.

First, I'm a big fan of 303 and I tried it for the dull spot to no avail. I then switched over to Vinylex and it's beautiful now. Vinylex is basically Lexol for plastic. Good luck!

i have a 05 TL with 4500 miles and i have the same problem...

i noticed that my dash is now gray and no longer black. there is a noticeable difference between the dash and the door. i believe they're suppose to be the same color.

i will try the vinylex tomorrow and see if it helps.

thanks for the tip.

Follow up question on bad dash

Thanks for all your responses. I ordered the 303 and can''t wait to try it. Did all of you have the "depressions" in the dash from the airbag module (?) or just the dull spots. There are definitly shallow depressions in my dash, which I am hoping the 303 will mask over since you can only see the depressions under certain lighting conditions. As ususal I appreciate you feed back.

My '05 WDP Parchment has powdery whitish stuff on dash. Since I'm not a cokehead, this is a little strange.

I use 303, as suggested on this forum. What am I doing wrong? Bad applicator?
Do you spray it on the surface and let dry, or wipe it on with a particular cloth?

I feel stupid as heck about this, but frankly, it looks lousy and I 303 almost weekly.

Thanks,

303 does not help for those blemishes!

Use a terry cloth applicator pad or a microfiber applicator pad. Spray the 303 on the pad. Apply. Wipe dry with a microfiber towel.

That is how I apply 303.

Yep - I had, excuse me, Have the same problem - just kinda got used to it. I have had the car for one year now - 303 and vinylex is what I use. I initially had a brownish color, cleaning got rid of that, now I think I just have the non-matching, faded look like everyone else. What made a difference was I took my shop vac and a soft brush and vaccumed the area above the steering wheel (the pitted part of dash) - you would not believe how dirty/dusty that was. One guy here suggested I clean the dash good, then put on my 303. That seemed to help. I think I used some really mild soapy water and scrubbed above the glove box and entire dash top. But it is still no where near the same color as the doors which really used to get on my nerve - almost to the point of asking dealer to replace dash, but I could not stomach a behind the dash rattle or scratched interior etc. as a result of the dash fix - which would probably do the same thing anyway. I bought one of those sun visors a lot of guys talk about here - can't recall the name - fits like a glove - finally a visor that doesn't droop or let sun in.
So, not much else I can do. Hopefully will not get any worse.

Anyway, its been a year - I am no longer bothered by it. (well, not too much anyway)

Dash and 303

I purchased my TL in December and just started noticing the discoloration on the dash. Having read this fourm on a regular basis I immediately ordered the 303 and applied it to the dash. It did help A LOT! I still have the "dimples" from the airbag (303 will not do anytrhing for them) but the color has come back nicely. Any opinion on how often to re-apply? Monthly? Or do I just wait until it starts to look "gray" again? Thanks for all of your help.

I say.. apply once every other month, depending on how much dust/sun gets on it.

WESTMARINE stores carry 303 protectant.

They are a national boating supply chain.

Hope this helps.

Question Tried everything

I tried the 303, vinylex and nxt. All have their advantages and disadvantages, but none seem to hide the depressions and dimples from the passenger aibag. Went to the dealer, they are supposed to contact American Honda for me. Have any ideas what else to try?

And don't forget the dash is dull for a reason - to keep down the reflection in the windshield. I use Aerospace 303 on it because it does not increase the shine and because 303 has sun block in it. When applied, it slightly deepens the color but not the shine. Very happy with 303.
