Seems to me from reading the threads on the dash crack that it tends to happen in places with lots of sun and heat, like AZ and Florida. Let's see if the stats bear that out. Post your car's year, location, and when it cracked. I suspect the dash may not be able to take heat cycling.

I have a 2004 TL and live in Puerto Rico. Dash had a small crack when I bought it when the car had 4yrs 3 mo. that originated in the center speaker. I didnt think anything of it untill I got the large crack where the Air Bag deploys.


You are right. the problem is that the dash expands and contracts over and over agian when exposed to heat and then cooled and eventually it will crack where the weak spots are. Unfortunatelly, since it is a desing flaw, I think it will happen to every 2004 - 2005 TL and event to later TL's sooner or later. Repeated exposure to heating and cooling down cycle will eventually cause the cracks and every vehicle will heat up inside and cool down regardless of where you live (all cars are subject to this), It will just happen in some places all year round and in other places only during the summer. So it might take longer for the cracks to show if the car is regularly used in a place where winters are cold, but eventually, they will show. Its just how I see it.

believe it or not, some of us do not use facebook, and since this forum is a repository for all things Acura, I figured it might be handy to have a list here, instead of driving our members off-site to get Acura-related information

I'm actually thinking it might happen just as often in colder places. It can get to -40F or lower here in Minnesota. Heat the car from -40 to 75 and you have a 115 degree temperature swing. To get a similar temp swing in Puerto Rico, you'd have to be enduring 190 degree days.

In other words, I think it's possible that we might actually be in more trouble than you guys. That's one of the reasons I'm looking to compile a definitive list - to see if it's true heat cycling, or if there is an upper temperature threshold beyond which the dash will crack.
