well congrats on considering the upgrade....
What i do think you should look for are the multiple threads that cover the pros and cons of the 3G TL. In fact there is a thread not too far below this one called "Which Car" that highlights most of what you are looking for.
Make the switch!!! The 3G is an amazing car

i have a 05 with 130k miles and haven't had any problems thus far besides the fact when i bought it the automatic windows wouldn't really work properly... Never heard of that even happening before so it was weird. but besides that, the car is perfect. Wish i had a 07-08 though so i could have DRL's...

if you got the six speed then I would say no worry there, go for it. AT isn't a big issue here like your 2nd gen but some unlucky few still run into AT issue.

thanks for the advice guys, i think im going to go ahead and buy it. it has 114,000 km, 6spd with nav, ht spec function and form coil overs, injen cold air intake. im dont usually buy cars that are already modified but this one seems to be aright, up to date service with records to prove it... all that good stuff.

+1, I test drove a few and played with the stereo, didn't test it out on the one I bought (stupid mistake) and the rear deck and door panels rattle like hell. I'm kinda used to it but still pissed, the dealer I got it from did the service bulletin on the rear and it's still bad.

Do it. Better car in pretty much every aspect.
Ask the man who has one of each.

As a person that just pulled the trigger, I would say that the 6spd is probably the way to go. I purchased a base '08 and wish that I got the Type-S. My '03 Type-S feels faster than the '08.

^^^wana put that feeling to the test? . Your feeling the 08 is lower might be that 03 TL peak TQ show up a little earlier than 08 model, I have the same feeling when I test drove couple 3rd gen TL-S comparing to my dad 2000 TL. But then when I floor it for the first time on highway I found out that the power band came really strong at 5500 RPM to redline versus my dad TL from 3500-5000 RPM.

I used to drive a 03 TL-S. It was a nice car except for the tranny that failed on me about every 10K miles.... that lawsuit warranty thing took care of it but it still got old. The 3G TL is a better car in just about every way. I still wouldnt say the AT is as bulletproof as toyota or nissans auto trannys, but its miles ahead of the 2g. I would say go for it. If you like your 2g, you'll love the 3G.
