Crazy Idea For Our Exhaust
hey guys i was driven along in yonkers NY today when i passed by a G35 Coupe..now dont get me wrong..I love my TL but the sound of the G35's exhaust is just amazing...i was wondering becouse i have connection here at a couple of junk yard, if i can find a g35/350Z/FX35(same exhaust) hit from the front n steel the mufflers n have a shop cut mine out n weld them in but also attach my tips to the end of the mufflers so it can apear stock. now do u guys think it would sound the same as G35? so u think it's possible or am i just nuts??? gimme ur

no way it will sound the same at all. I mean I can tell a difference between a Chevy/Dodge/ and Ford trucks even with the same Flowmaster muffler. Engines fire different and sound different with different tones. I mean its worth a shot to see, but dont expect an exact sound replication.

theres alot more to exaust tuning and sound quality then just mufflers.... so no it wouldnt be that simple. it might improve the sound but i seriously doubt it would sould alot better

you want the sound of a g35 huh .. are ya gonna swap the motor too?
for real though, theres more to the sound of the exhaust then just the shape of metal that the air flows through. Its also the dynamics/internals and externals of the motor that contribute to the sound as well

to get the closest sound possible to the G35, you would need to get the whole exhaust system. at least from the headers on back. starting at the downpipe - cat - resonators - mufflers and all connections in between. you would have one hell of a time because i highly doubt that they both have the same shape.
good luck and keep us posted. you may have a better and cheaper chance at a custom exhaust

If you change your engine's intake, bore/stroke, valve diameters, valve timing, headers and a few other simple things.. oh I suppose it would sound the same

not for nothing i doubt that theres any nice exhaust setups out for the TL's yet other than the comptech which does not flow with the rear bumper0 at all..so i figured custom is the best bet...n hey y not experiment....but honostly what do u guys think it would sound like if u were to put the resinator 2.5 piping( custom bent to fit TL) n the mufflers off the g35?? i never said they would sound the same i was wondering what u guys think it would sound like, raspy, deep, throaty. ect....

i would personally just like to open up all the pipes from the downpipe all the way to the back. leave everything else. cat and mufflers. maybe change a resonator, get rid of it?

all technical stuff aside, the G35 has 1 muffler, with 2 exit ports, so the car looks like its dual exhaust, but its really not, very much like our TL, but ours splits from the pipe where the G35's splits from the muff

It will be difficult to replicate the tone of any 6 cylinder nissan powerplant. Try having some greddy, apex'i, or hks canisters installed.

Yea LOL. Make a hole in exhaust pipe before catalitic. My old 95 GS-R sounds pretty good with hole in exhaust pipe before catalitic. HA-HA-HA

One on the right for me
I just finished reworking my friends G35 exhaust, if even if you were lucky enough to fit the G35 exhaust underneath the TL, the sound would not be the same (as stated several times already.) I dont think there is much you can do to the TL exhaust except make it look pretty with the comtech ss exhaust....keeping the stock tips of course (like i did...well minus the comptech but made my own system.) I think the G35 gets the point for the exhaust note...will be very very very hard to approach that sweet tone.

here's my take on the situation
I bought a TL. I could have bought a G35, but chose not to...
Considering that I bought a TL, I would very much enjoy it if my car looked like a TL, and sounded like a TL
But that's just me.
