crashed my 08 kbp type-s

god im so depressed. i wish i would of died.
it sucks cause the car is in my dads name but i payed half of the fees or whatever(i cant think now) to get the car and i have been making the payment every month(just made the 3rd) and now hes flipping out cause hes worried about what is next and now hes going to give me back my part of the downpayment and once i pay the insurance deductible he's selling it. i had 3 accidents with this car, 1 fault, 2 non fault. 1st time my car was damaged in a parking lot because someone backed into the front bumper. 2nd time someone tried to get around my left side in the city and the tire hit my rear driver side wheel well. 3rd time(what just happen) stopped at a light behind a SUV in the middle lane, moderate traffic, light turned green everyone started moving good then i go to change to the right lane then BAM before i even realized the person infront of me slammed on their brakes i was already knocked out by the airbag. all i remember is my arm smacking my head because of the airbag and breaking my sunglasses. it turns out maybe 1/4 mile down the road there was construction in the right lane and it was closed so as people merged someone cut off the SUV infront of me and she slammed on her brakes

what you cant see is the front driver quarter panel is completely destroyed along with the driverside mirror because the quarter panel was pushed back

That sucks, and glad you're OK.

And forgive me for saying that maybe you have too much car for someone that has little driving experience. Maybe rethink your choice of cars.

Sorry about your car.

To others, keep distance from cars in front of you! The op was tailgating, and did not have enough time to stop... Based on the damage, you didn't just smoothly go to the right lane, you jumped into it... it was tight, and you had no room to brake... And then you say you were heading to the right.... the damage on your car is on your left... Interesting..no?

90% right, i wasnt tailgating, i always leave room infront of me, there was about 7-10ft between me and the car infront of me. its just i turned my head to the right to see if i can get over safely, but while doing that i was accelerating because the SUV accelerated fast. if i didnt turn my head and just looked at the mirror i would of side swiped the car next to me because there was a car and he was way over to the right almost in the "emergency" lane

Awareness, distance all factor in. A hit is a hit. You hit the car in front of you and it sucks but not much you can do.

Sorry dude, drive slower I guess.

*mod edit*

lol u know whats funny, right after i hit her i get out of the car and there is no car near her, the closest car must of been maybe 1/8th of a mile away and no "bumper to bumper" traffic. i think she got cut off and over reacted and braked.

i just spoke to the body shop guy and its no where near totaled, which sucks i have bad luck with this car, 3 accidents. and just filed the claim with my insurance and they are like, "ur 100% wrong" lol. oh well its a car... but it was also my life...

edit: before u say im a bad driver realize: the 1st time was in a parking lot when my car was PARKED, the front bumper was damaged. the 2nd time i was STOPPED at a light and someone tried to pass/park next to me in the city(i was in left lane they were going into parking lane) and their tired hit me. 3rd time, my fault completely

yes, only. i have been in a few accidents, side swiped 3 times, 2x in my old car, 1x in the acura, rear ended in the old car(stopped at light) by a drunk driver, and a few times my car has been damaged by people in parking lots... i just had bad luck, 4 out of the 5 accidents have been unavoidable, this one that just happen was avoidable.

glad ur ok...

maybe i missed something in the posts before mine but

if you were only 7-10 ft away, how did so much damage occur?

and the airbags wouldnt deploy cause you couldnt have gone that fast...

maybe i am wrong...but im very confused...

when the SUV accelerated fast, i followed suit but keeping that safe distance, once i turned my head to the right she hit her brakes(i think i was looking to the right not infront of me) and i keep accelerating and then hit her. i have no idea how fast i was going, i would have to guess and say maybe 10-15mph. but u gotta realize, a ~4000lbs car hitting an object that isnt moving is ALOT of force

also, notice the damage is directly to the grill, right above the bumper support. since the SUV is alot higher than the TL, maximum damage was done to the acura compared the the SUV, the SUV had a crack in the bumper and scratches...the bumper has almost no damage to it because that was NOT where the impact point was, the impact was directly between the grill and the headlight, the grill was cracked and separated from the bumper because of the force

Geez... you've had a string of bad luck with your 08' TL (and yet there's still over a month remaining of 2008). It pains me to see pics of your car but I'm glad you're okay.

All the reason to become more vigilant. Winter driving/snow season isn't even upon us in full force yet and I see people are still driving in "summer-mode" (not to mention those I see texting with one hand and holding a cigarette with the other).

I couldn't help replaying your scenario in my head. You say you werent tailgating. 7ft - 10ft distance between you and the car in front of you seems awfully close to me. Keep in mind for perspective: 3rd gen TL's are 189.3 inches in length. That translates to 15.775 feet long for our TL's. You were following LESS than a car length behind the car in front of you. (That seems like an awfully small window of reactionary time). Even at a dead stop in rush hour traffic, I would say that the typical driver has at least 3ft distance (if not more) from the car in front of him/her.

that is a very good point i didnt really think of that. to a certain point it was kind of unavoidable because i could not see the right lane was blocked, it just happen that they just started to block off the lane right before a got into the accident and that messed everything up, not 1 sign was posted, but i did notice right after the accident i hear these mexicans say, "this dumb white boy ruined such a beautiful car" in spanish, and as they say that they are running down the street with the "construction ahead x amount of miles or whatever" i didnt think to make a note of that.

Yup. That's why I said it.

I get cold chills just looking at other damaged tl's w/ the same color..

But, stuff happens... but.. you seem accident prone. You may want to keep way more distance in the future... or you'll be getting insanely high insurance rates and/or dropped from insurance..

yeah i could imagine, cause it looks pretty much identical to yours.

and i actually did learn from this, destroying something i loved, it definitely hurts. this is my first chargeable accident so thats good, but the bad thing is i have a pretty bad ticket history, 2 speeding(back in 06-07) and red light(06), and stop sign(07). so with those tickets and now this accident i think it looks pretty bad in the eyes of the insurance company

Glad you are not hurt but grow up. 3 or 4 accidents and your 20 years old and you think your experienced. Inexperience with too much car is the problem. Not paying attention to your surroundings is another. Accept blame, move on, buy your own car and downgrade power and price so you can afford it yourself. Nothing worse than 20 year olds crying when daddy bought 1/2 there $35k car. What a different time we live in.

you are beyond wrong. first off if you would of read what i said, he paid half of the licenses and fees, i believe it came to 4700ish and i put down half and he put down half. i already bought my own car, my first car i bought cash. i wanted a step up and my credit is good but not good enough to get a low monthly payment. thats why it was in his name, but i made every payment, paid for everything did to the car. never got money from him because i didnt have any. i make good money for my age and i have no expense besides this car. so i was able to afford it

The way I read the post was he helped pay half the fees/down payment.. not the whole car, and has been making the monthly payments on it.. but, I could of read it wrong.

At any rate, try not to lump every 20/21 year old into the same group... I paid for my own car, fully.. without assistance. Not everyone is driving in the car daddy bought... oh, and some can actually handle the power. and, btw.. this was the only at fault accident. You can't always help what OTHER drivers do on the road or in parking lots. Shit happens. Don't be so judgmental.

What a time we live in.. is right... in more ways than one.

i knew this was going to happen. any post about a young driver is just a ticking time bomb waiting to go off. ill say how it went so its clear:

went to dealership, would not get approved due to lack of credit.
went back and got it under dads name, paid half of the 4800(just to make an easy figure), so i paid 2400.
when the bill comes, i gave him cash. i wouldnt nickel and dime him saying i dont have the money. i do have the money to support my habits(the car, driving, partying, living)

and i did accept blame...obviously i fucked up, i mean yeah i could of waited behind the other driver untill it was completely clear, which wouldnt of happen, or did what i did. i know everyone does it, turns their head for a split second then looks back, i have done it millions of times and got lucky by nothing happening, its just this one time... and its not too much car, i accelerated normally, its not like i pulled a toyko drift turn with tires spinning...come on man
