Unless you live in a state that requires zero deductible on windshield, the deductible will probably get you.

Definitely get OEM. Acura windshields have a layer of sound deadening material sandwiched between the layers of glass, and you won't get that in aftermarket.

The OEM windshield with installation will probably run around $800, but you can get some estimates and find out for sure.

I am changing my insurance company from AAA to Farmers - primarily because of AAA's stupidity when it comes to dealing with the claim and beacuse they raised my rates a ton from the not-at-fault accident. Farmers is giving me a rate with both vehicles and homeowners and adding the umbrella policy for $1605 less a month. At any rate, my point is - farmers offered me an option for $28 for a year to have full glass coverage without paying the deductible. So you may want to check if this is included in your policy if your state does not already require it.

Welcome to the club... many others have had them..

My insurance covered, but had to pay the deductible... argued with Acura and they picked up half of the deductible... also like mentioned about $800 because they will also replace all the trim around the window and not just the window itself..

what was your angle for the argument? my deductible is 500...but i was talkin to AAA and the lady was trying to say that its better you pay for it yourself instead of a claim cuz it counts against you...she was trying to say it...but just in so many words because she might get in trouble.

She was right. They do count against you but it depends on what the company guidelines are. I worked for a big insurance company before and I was in charge of coding the rating programs. Number of claims was a variable that was taken into consideration for calculating the rates. Sometimes, it is within the guidelines of the product to cancel you off for having an X number of claims, whether they are your fault or not.

I went to serramonte acura today and what a complete waste of time. They didn't set an appointment with the glass installer, so now i have to wait an entire week to get my glass fixed. I called made an appointment on monday and even called again to confirm the appointment for saturday. I even put a hold on the glass with the parts department. So now i have to wake up again at 7:30 on saturday to get my glass fixed. Completely disappointed

safelite can fix small cracks, big cracks need to have the glass replaced.
And yes, there is a BIG difference between OEM glass and what else you might get elsewhere.
Just tap the windshield hard with the tip of your finger, do the side windows,
then do the back window. You can hear a BIG difference between the others and the back window, the others give a dull thud, the back glass gives a sharp tap sound!

That may be a reason the glass cracks easy, two thin layers with a soft film between them. i suppose you could do one very thick piece (Jaguar does that), but it would be much heavier...
