Unhappy Cracked Windsheild

I was driving down an old 1 lane highway on the way to lunch and a trash truck passed in the other lane. Then I hear this BAMMM!! and I was like wtf? I thought something had hit my bumper hard or somtin then when I got out I didn't see anything. Then on the way back I notice a large crack up the windsheild on the passanger side.

It looks like it hit at the bottom right below the windsheild wiper. I have never had a windshield actually crack so bad from a small pebbel. Is this normal? I have had small chips and stuff but never had this? Anyways it is going 2 the dealer next week 2 get fixed. It is about $600 and my insurance deductable is 500 so looks like itll all be commin out of my pocket.. I just thought it was really weird how the whole windsheild cracked.

Sorry to hear about that. My auto insurance (AAA) covers windshield damage without having to pay the deductible. Are you sure your insurance does not have the same policy?

I have been a Honda/Acura guy for over 10 years now, but the one complaint I have is their glass. I have replaced the winshield in every Honda or Acura I have ever owned. Twice on my 99 TL. One of those was a small rock hitting at the base of the winshield, about 2 inches from the moulding

I have never replaced the glass on any other vehicle I have owned (6 others cars, and one SUV).

Maybe it is the Houston roads, but I think the Japanese cars in general have thinner glass.

Anyway, sorry to hear about it. Better luck with your next winshield.

I'm in the same boat. I have a nearly identical crack on my 04. The dealer quoted me $740 for a replacement. I have to say I think Houston roads are more prone to this as we have so much debris and they don't clean the roads that often here. I've lived here about 11 years and have had at least to replace windshields at lease once every couple of years. This last crack came from something hitting just below the wiper. I heard a thud and immediately a crack appeared. I was hoping to get two years out of this windshield but barely made it 18 months and that was with 1 chip repair. If you live in Houston, you just have to be used to replacing windshields. Hey, at least our gas is cheaper than average....

The windshield of my '01 TL was hit with a stone and I had to replace the windshield. Fortunately my insurance covered the replacement. My '04 TL windshield was hit with a very small stone and there is a small mark in my windshield which is barely noticeable. I tend to agree with you that the Acura glass could be more "stone resistant."

Covered under insurance in Florida

This same thing happened to me about a month ago ... Called my insurance company Amica and told me it would be covered under Florida Law without any deductible fee. It was fixed the next day.

That could be a picture of my crack...

The Acura rep took a 'scope' that magnifies and 'found' a place where a 'rock' hit...

They decided to pay 1/3, me 1/3 and insurance 1/3.... but I still think it was a flaw.

I have never attached a pic and can not figure out how.... sorry

Does your car insurance have comprehensive coverage? (That's the name of a specific coverage type and either your insurance card or your policy's declarations page will indicate if you have it.) If so, that's the coverage that would apply to this sort of damage. Comprehensive coverage applies to the so-called "Acts of God"--a tree falls on your car, a rock flies up and hits the windshield, etc.
