Crack forming in Windshield

Well, only 150 miles on the car and my first problem showed up tonight. I now have a 10 inch crack on the bottom of the front windshield in front of the passenger. Nothing hit the window, it just showed up.

I can not believe that this would happen so soon on a new car. I hope Acura will step up and replace the windshield. Still I do not like to have something like this happen so soon.

Sorry to hear that... Never heard that before. Please give us the update what your dealer says. Thanks.

I'm no expert but this sounds like a stress crack possibly caused by an improper windshield installation. Not uncommon to new cars. I believe your warranty will cover this but check with your dealer ASAP.

If there is no rock chip near the crack it's definitely a stress crack. This happened on my '99 TL within the first month of ownership. Your dealer will be able to replace this under warranty for you.

Good luck, I hope Acura takes care of you. I can tell you for sure if u had a Honda you probably would be on your own. The same thing happened on my g/f's Accord and they refused to fix it.

No big deal. People are right that it happens. My uncle's colleague had the same problem in his IS300 in FL, but he thought it was related to heat.

It could also be from a manufacturing flaw in the glass. It will surely be covered. Please keep us posted.

Well, after going to Acura, the service manager said it was a rock that cracked the windshiled.

If you look very closely, you can see a very small pin size mark on the crack. I will try and get a picture to show, but it is very small. My current picture was too big to attach.

Now I have to call Acura to see what they will do.

If it really looks like something hit the windshield, then the person you should be calling is your insurance agent.

I have contacted Acura customer service and will see what they say. The 'hole' (and I use that lightly) is under the wiper and below the hood line. It would take a very skillful rock to get there. And, it is so small that I do not think a rock could do that little damage.

We just had a crack appear in the same place on the windshield of our '03 MDX. It was cold and icey, and we used the defroster because the windshield was starting to fog up. About 20 minutes later, we noticed the crack. No one noticed anything hitting the windshield. I think it cracked due to the rapid temperature change...

I had the same thing happen on my 94 Accord's Sunroof. I had it about 10 days and didn't notice is at first but started to hear a squeeking sound. When I went to wash it, I noticed a good 8" stress fracture. The dealer covered it under warranty. Good luck with yours.
