Courtesy Acura, Sanford FL, Heads Up
So this is my first time starting a thread, sorry in advance if I'm not following the rules or posting this in the wrong spot or something. Last week I had a local mechanic do my 105,000 mile service. After looking under the hood for about a minute he realized my A/T dip stick was conspicuously absent.
Last May (20,000-30,000 miles ago) I had my car in to the dealership (Courtesy Acura in Sanford, FL) for a regular oil change and service, and they suggested I let them change the tranny fluid. I agreed since I don't want to take any chances with my transmission. After the service, I assumed everything was good and drove home.
Since that service, the same dealership performed at least 2 oil changes, as did a mechanic up here (Upstate NY), and obivously no one noticed. I don't look under the hood nearly as often as I should, but I will now, trust me. My mechanic drained and replaced the transmission fluid and suggested I do it again in a few thousand miles because it looked awful, and I intend to.
The moral of this story is, even though your dealership has a service director whose job it is to check everything that leaves the shop (obivously they don't always), check EVERYTHING under the hood after EVERY service, I know I will. I was lucky enough to not get anything too bad stuck in my tranny and avoided a very expensive failure.

Oh man. Did you find a new dip stick? There was one time I had an oil change at a Big 10 tires and they forgot to fill it with oil. I was watching and had them add oil after the fact. Good catch by your mechanic. He's a keeper. BTW, no rules broken by your thread.

That could happen anywhere. Quality control has gone WWAAYY down the last few years. It's a real sad state of affairs but no matter where you go anymore it's like no one cares about the finished product, just making a few quick bucks

this is why I always pull the dip stick and check for oil/AFT every time after the dealer return my car, you would be surprise to see how many dumb a$$ actually working in Acura dealer, back in 05 I brought my Legend into acura dealer for a radio code the service guy told me that the radio need to be replace or repair because it won't accept the code they found, I ask how much for the new radio and they told me it would be $2300 I look at the guy laugh and left. I bought a used radio on ebay and call the dealer up for the code and it just happend that I read the code for the old radio serial # (the one that suppose doesn't accept the code) to the dealer. The woman give me totally is different code compare to what I have in my service paper work. It happened that the tech who can't read the serial number and screw up.
