Thats pretty much the exact deal I got. But it took me over 2 months of bitching and walking out of dealerships to get it. I wound up having to drive 250+ miles to get the deal I got. (In order to get the exact car I wanted). You can do it, and now that the 08's are coming soon you have more of a chance. Good luck.

I don't think you're going to be able to hit $400 with just $2,500 down given July's poor lease numbers. For a 36 month lease and 15,000 miles annually the residual is 52% and the money factor is .0029 on a TL-S. I took an invoice of $35,638 (including destination) and subtracted $1,500 from it (current manufacturer to dealer cash that is available) to assume a selling price of $34,138. I assumed a 7% sales tax and got a monthly payment above $500 even with a $2,500 down payment.

Here is a lease calculator to help you plug in numbers:

Yeah, no problem. I really want to lease a TL-S like you but these lease numbers are killing me. I am planning on no money down and with a selling price of $34,138 my payments are at $617!

The other car I'm looking at is the Infinity G35X. I like the Acura more but for an identical lease (36 months/15k miles), the residual is 57% (+5%) and the money factor is much better at .00193. My lease costs for the G35X are $100 less per month.

My local dealer told me that the 08 TL-S will come in late next week as they are already receiving the 08 TL. He said that with the new model I won't be able to negotiate such a low selling price but he felt confident that the residual and money factors would be better, thus giving me a lower monthly payment. Only time will tell...

Personally, I think waiting to see what lease rates come out for the 08 would be the best thing to do right now. For July, the 2007 has a standard money factor (poor) and the residual seems lower than it should be. Come August, new numbers will come out for the 07 (and the 08), and I don't see how they could be any worse than they were for July. Although, while the lease rates may be better on the 08 TL-S, you will not be able to negotiate such a low selling price so the payments might come out the same.

I just got a quote for a TL-S at invoice, $35,638. Is the $1,500 manufacture to dealer cash still in effect?

I'm with SteveP66- your friend could do it, but then he would be an idiot...

And ballpark is more like $3K down and $400 month (b/f taxes).

Leasing can be tricky - some cars it is the better deal and with some it isn't ......if you have to lease it to drive it - it may be beyond your financial grasp to begin with.

Last thing you want to do is end up paying for a car you can't even afford to put gas in

This IS a lease thread but I think you mean that your buddy wants to put $10K down on a PURCHASE rather than a lease, right? If so, then yea, you can get under $400/month with $10K down IF you get a an aggressive dealer willing to give you the $1,500 incentive on top of a wholesale price (takes the car price around $33K before taxes, etc) and then you place $10K down leaves you a loan amount of around $24K. Carry that out to a 60 month period at a decent (non-Acura) discount (most likely from a credit union or similar) and he will be under that figure, no problems. As others here have stated, if he plans to lease do NOT put ANY more money down that ABSOLUTELY necessary.

Give your friend some good advice. If he's serious about shelling out the $10K on a lease:

Just put down $5,000 and save the other $5K to pay for the all the charges at the end of the lease. (New Tires, dings, scratches, misc repairs, excess mileage, etc....).

Most people don't realize this part of the lease and get a big shock when they get the bill. That's how dealers make you jump into another lease when they claim that they can "waive" all or most of these charges.

The ONLY way he can get a TL-S with NAVI for $10K down and a $400 payment AND have it paid for in 24 months (2 years) is to wait about 5 years to buy a used one once the prices have depreciated to the point where the car is available for around $18K. Of course, by then it will also have "average mileage" of around 75K miles on it. Sorry, but your buddy does not have a good grasp of reality at the present time. Get him some (apparently) much needed counseling...

The above is not "exactly" accurate. You can (and will) turn in a leased vehicle with tire wear. As long as the wear is not "un-safe" the lease company can't charge you anything for them. Regular replacement DURING this lease IS at your cost but you do NOT have to pay for new tires at the time of trade in unless they are completely shot. In addition, minor dings and dents are NORMAL wear and tear (My brother is a dent guy and the DEALERSHIP pays for those when the vehicle is returned to stock as they have a pool of $'s reserved EXCLUSIVELY for that). Now, there is a difference between road nicks from rocks, minor dents and the like vs. a "caved in fender". You may be comfortable driving around with a HUGE gash in the car but that doesn't mean it's OK to turn in that way but nicks and dents are fine. Excess mileage? What are you CRAZY? YOU signed a contract BASED on (nearly exclusively) on MILEAGE! That's the WHOLE POINT to a lease so OF COURSE you're charged for anything you consume beyond the lease terms, DUH!
