Cost for timing belt and what is necessary

It is about time to replace the timing belt so I have been checking with Acura stores and they range from $800 to $1400 for the service. Every dealer says to replace all belts and the water pump. Some also say the tension adjusters(?) must be replaced. Ball park what should the service cost and what should I get done? Do the tensioners need to be replaced? I have already replaced the spark plugs.

There is a group buy going on right now where you can buy the "timing belt kit" fpr $300.
Yes, replace the idler pulley and tensioner pulley.
I was quoted $1300 for labor+parts at my local Acura dealer. I bought the parts and will be doing the labor myself

Either your mechanic is looking for more work from you in the future and/or he's an idiot. Replacing the water pump at the same time you do the timing belt is common knowledge and common practice. I'd find someone else to do the work.

Agreed. Might as well buy the part... they shouldnt charge you anything for labor of the waterpump, while your getting your timing belt installed.

This.

Replacing the water pump is part of the service outlined by Acura. Find a new mechanic.

Dude if you don't replace the water pump when you do the timing belt.. chances are slim to none that it will NOT hold up another 75k or even 10k until you replace the 2nd timing belt, granted you keep the car that long. It's a cheap part, and should be replaced since your timing belt will already be off.

Do it right the first time

Ya I trust, he has been working on my car for about 3 years, he specializes in honda and acura cars he said if it is not broken why replace it. the water pump is not a common issuse of failure. The manual at 100km says to replace the timing belt and valve adjustment not water pump. if my water pump is leaking or not working he will replace it.

The problem is: you never want to wait until the water pump is leaking or broken to fix it. If it dies 2 months after changing the timing belt, then you will have to spend another $$$ on a $100 part. Spend that $100 now and enjoy the peace of mind until another timing belt change.

I respect your decision. Just my

What about the seals?

When do they need replaced? ...or do you wait until they start to leak? Or does it have some sort of non-leaking "forever" seals.

After 4 timing belt changes on my 92 accord, this one in a few years will be the first on my TL.
