Cost of A12 Service?

My dealer just quoted me $264.18 for an A12 service. From my feeble memory (I don't have the manual handy), this should include oil, oil filter, rotate tires, cabin air filter, and various 'inspections.' This seems awfully high to me, but I'm willing to pay it if it's in line with the norm.

Yes, I could do this all myself, but I don't have the supplies nor the strong motivation to do so.

Yea, I had the B12 (I think) couple months back and I think it wasn't as much as your quote, more like about the $170-200 range. Saved myself some bucks by DIY the cabin air filter and the engine air filter. Just my . . . .

How did you do it in 15 minutes? Did you make that cut that the DIYs have recommended?

Tomorrow, I'm going to call a local independent shop that does good work on my wife's car. If their quote is good, I might give my dealer an opportunity to "retain me as a customer" before I make an appointment with the independent.

Here are the links to the Cabin Filter DIY; took me a little bit longer than 15 minutes.

Update: I'm going to let my dealer do the oil change for $45. They have the air filters in stock, so I'll pick them up during my appointment and do the tire rotation and filter replacements myself.

Air filter: $26.03
Cabin air filter: $30.13

So, the whole "A12" service will cost me about $100 and some of my time.

I just replaced the cabin air filter. As has been noted, it was simple enough. While I had the glove box and that panel behind it out of the car, I cut the rectangular opening so I don't have to remove so much the next time.

Thanks to this board for all the great instructions and advice!

For K&N filters, shop around on the net. Try AJUSA. You're gonna need the filter service kit later and sells for $10.

I had K&N in my previous car and my local parts guy has them at a good price. However, there is so much debate here about using them that I'm sticking with OEM for now. I still have the K&N recharging kit, though.
