Constant Velocity Axle question

I noticed that the outer "skin" layer of my axles are peeling off, exposing the metal shaft underneath. I live in Syracuse, NY, known for lake-affect snow and prodigious use of road salt.

I assume this is not good for the axle or cv joint in the long run.

I still have powertrain coverage on my 07 TL which lists cv joints and driveshafts.

Do you guys think my warranty will cover this?

Thanks.

I say no as the drivetrain is fine, meaning there is no mechanical defect or malfunction of that part. The only way the joint would be compromised is if the boot would be torn or clamps rust off. If the boot is secured properly and no splits no harm to the joint.

I've seen oil pans that rust through and the manufacturer wouldn't stand behind their product.

I spoke to the service manager this morning, showed him the stuff that fell off. He told me that the TL has iron drive axles so no issues if the paint peels off, other than surface corrosion. He said if water gets in and damages the cv joints, then i'm covered under my powertrain (1 year and 10k left).

He did mention that on RL's the axle is carbon fiber, so if stuff flakes off of the RL, then it is a cause for concern.
