Comptech Exhaust...Anyone?
Comptech Exhaust...Anyone?
I just saw a black 'or TL with A-Spec Package, and Comptech Exhaust (looked like it) in Riverside, CA. It actually looked pretty good, even with the round tips. Does anyone here have the Comptech exhaust and if so, what are your thoughts?
$1100 = Phooooey
Spend your money on something that'll make a difference: tires, springs, shocks, sways.
$1100 is much better spent on the A-spec suspenion, IMHO. It's better to pay about $150.00 to buy new tips for the existing stock mufflers and have a welding shop put them on professionally for you.

I bet comptech is hitting themselves in the head after they realized they're retarded for not listening to all of our e-mails and trying to overprice and sell an ugly exhaust. I doubt they've hit 100 sold yet.
GoBig .
Got the Comptech exhaust installed two weeks ago.Love the sound. It has deep throaty
sound almost like Flowmasters. Not the high pitched Civic types.
Had the rear sway bar installed at the same time with Comptech sport springs.Handles like
a dream.

but, you have it now, enjoy it.
cvajs ,
hey I have looked at Spintech web site.
When you click on Catback systems you will see Toyota and the rest is American cars.
I don't care for the boxy look of the mufflers. The reason I stick to Comptech is that they
have a agreement with Honda Corp.and their products carry a Honda warranty. They only
specialize in Honda products, period. That is the reason I have purchased the rear sway bar
and springs also from them.Like you said I got them so enjoy. And trust me I do.
Thanks,

GoBig ,
Hey ,it sounds great. The stock exhaust was so lame I knew it had to go.It reminds you that the
it was worth every penny. When I compared both exhaust systems Comptech's is much more free
flowing. When you get up to about 4000 RPM and let off the gas it gets eerie quiet in the car and then
the music starts again.Hey does anyone know what GaleForce is driving?Did he post pics of his car?
He doesn't seem to know half a time what is he talking about.

Also, GaleForce drives an SSM TL. I've seen it.

why dont you just make your own exhaust and save 500 bucks? cut the tips off the stock mufflers and use them on the new system. keeps the stock look with improved flow and a change in the tone if desired.

now, to make it a worthy challenge, i would attempt to make the thing dual exhaust from the engine and use a "H" pipe to balance the system along with easier flowing pre-mufflers and mufflers.
do you mean dual from the cat back? in california (not sure about other states) its illegal to modify the position of the catalytic converters, as well as removing or adding additional ones. You could put a y pipe on after the last can and run duals like that (with great difficulty) or just up the size of the exhaust pipe on their now, using the y pipe from the rear of the car.

CA sucks with all that emissions regulations crud. CA needs to police it better and allow the owner to make chnages as long as they don't violate emissions requirements.
no you are right about the cats being right after the head, i believe the pipes join up and there is another cat, although i am not 100 percent sure. im going to put my car up and replace the rear mufflers and the stock resonator with aftermarket ones to see how it works out. if it doesnt sound right then the stock stuff is going right back on.
The exhaust manifolds are really extension of the heads on this car - it helps them light off quickly for ULEV status. Good system.
Recall that the 2004 exhaust was already freed up, which accounts for nearly all of the HP increase of the TL over the Type-S. Much beyond that will be hard to get from any aftermarket exhaust, IMO. Not as bad as the S2000, which has an excellent (but heavy) OE system. I spent $1500 to get a proper sound and save 35 pounds with my Mugen titanium.
Change it for sound and looks, but any ponies will surely be way up the RPM range, which may make you feel better and have bragging rights and all, but will have only the slightest effect on performance.

yes, most of the sound and tone come from the mufflers and resonators. a larger pipe will give you a deeper sound, but you might sacrafice power moving to a bigger diameter. what color TL do you have in davis? i havent seem but two or three of them.
